“While the argument was going on, Basiru who is a friend to Angela broke a bottle and injured the deceased.

“Angela used the broken part of the bottle to stab the deceased in the armpit thereby cutting one of his nerves, consequent upon which he bled to death,’’ he said.

Oyeyemi said the manager of the hotel alerted the Police and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ifo Division; CSP Anthony Haruna led his men to the scene and arrested the two suspects.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that the case be transferred to Homicide section, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and prosecution of the suspects.

Buhari’s Health, No Cause For Alarm- Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday assured Nigerians that there was nothing to worry about President Muhamadu Buhari’s health, Premium Times reports.

Mr. Mohammed, while addressing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, said Mr. Buhari “is in very very competent hands and there is no cause for alarm.”

The president has been in London for three weeks where he is receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Several Nigerians have expressed worry about his health and his ability to continue to run the government despite his failing health. His critics like Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State have also called for his resignation.

The government has, however, repeatedly said the president was recovering well and would soon return to continue his work currently being handled by his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo.

Muslims, Traditionalists Clash In Ekiti Over The ‘God’ To Worship At A Particular Time

There was confusion in Ikun community in Moba Local government Area of Ekiti State on Tuesday evening as Muslims in the community and masquerade worshippers clashed at the central mosque in the community.

The crisis, it was gathered was as a result of a clash in the timing of the breaking of the day’s ramadan fast by the Muslims, who had converged on the Ansar-ud-Deen Central Mosque in the community and the procession of the masqueraders with their “Àjàgùnmàlè” deity.

It was gathered that the fasting Muslims had converged on the central mosque in the community to break their fast and pray, while the traditionalists were said to have also begun their procession at about the same time.

A source in the Ikun claimed that “in the community, the tradition is that when the masqueraders, which is once in three years, hold their procession, any form of noise is not tolerated. It is done in absolute silence. But the Muslims’ call to prayer was done at about the same time and this, I believe, caused the clash.”

The Muslim worshippers were said to have been beaten with cudgels, stones and metals, resulting in varying degrees of injuries to them, just as the mosque was vandalised.

Windscreens of two cars vehicles parked in the mosque were also smashed just as the glass panes of the mosque’s windows.

The Imam of the mosque, Alh Abdul-Rasak Abubakar-Bello, received a head injury and was treated at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti (EKSUTH), while five other worshippers were also injured.

Abubakar-Bello said they were held hostage in the mosque for hours by the masqueraders, who he said threatened to kill them, saying “there was no way we could escape because they laid siege outside the mosque after initially attacking us inside the mosque with iron and woody rods.

When we succeeded in locking ourselves inside the mosque, they started throwing stones at us.”

The Muslim community alleged that the police ignored their distress calls while also alleging that Oba Olusola supervised the attack.

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), in a statement, also condemned the attack and also accused the Oba Olatunde and the Police of complicity in the crisis.

Oba Olatunde has however responded saying; “there has always been crisis between them because the shrine is very close to the mosque; that is why we took the step of informing the various bodies beforehand, to avoid trouble. Because they have to go to their shrine, there’s always trouble that is why I wrote a letter to them to ask them to do their thing and it takes less than one hour.”

He said the Muslim community had met with the traditional council and they had agreed that there would not be noise during the time of the procession, pointing out that “I gave them another option of using the other mosques in the town instead of the one close to the shrine, all in a bid to avert trouble.”

According to him, “in the full glare of everybody, when the Egungun procession was coming at about 6:35 or 6:40, the call for prayers began to ring out and it was a surprise to everybody. They even threw a missile from upstairs which smashed one of the vehicles parked at the mosque. If not that the processing traditionalists avoided the missile, they would have been injured. That was how they started retaliating.”

He said his intervention had saved the day, saying “if not for my quick intervention, because I sent my chiefs to intervene immediately, it would have escalated and it would have been a very bad situation. If they had done their prayers quietly, there wouldn’t have been any crisis.”

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State police command, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, said the clash between the masqueraders and Muslims had been brought under control and normalcy has been restored to the community.

Philippine Leader Slams Chelsea Clinton Over Rape Criticism

It actually hurt him, lol. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte denounced the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton on Wednesday after she criticised a comment he made about rapes committed by soldiers.

In an expletive-laden speech at a navy event, Mr Duterte asked Chelsea Clinton if she also criticized her father when he had an affair with Monica Lewinsky in the White House when he was president of the United States.

He said he was being sarcastic when he told troops last week that he would take responsibility for any crimes they commit while implementing martial law that he declared in the southern third of the country, even if they rape three women.

Chelsea Clinton, responding last week to a tweet about Mr Duterte's rape comment, tweeted: "Not funny. Ever.''

Oh well, she only used three letter words, why use uncountable sir? Looooool.

Two Dead In School Shooting In Saudi Arabia

Two people were killed and another injured when a man opened fire inside a private school's administration building in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, but no students were present, the head of the school told Reuters.

The shooting was "a case of a disgruntled employee," said Talal al-Maiman, CEO of Kingdom Holding and chairman of Kingdom Schools, which operated the school.

"It is with regret that the administration building of Kingdom Schools witnessed this morning a shooting incident by an Arab national who was dismissed from the school four years ago on the basis of anger issues and an unstable personality.

The victims were a Saudi national and a Palestinian national, he said, and the situation at the school was contained as of mid-afternoon.

The school had been closed about a week before the Ramadan holiday, in line with a royal decree.
The holiday began on Saturday. Police cars could be seen at the school campus, but the scene was otherwise quiet.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said it was a "criminal case" and that Riyadh Police would issue a statement with further details.

Kingdom Schools is owned and operated by Kingdom Holdings, a company of Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal. It is situated in northern Riyadh.

Maiman said the school's private security guards followed established procedures until the case was handed over to government authorities.

Schools To Teach Maths In Indigenous Languages

The Federal Government says primary and secondary schools in the country will soon start teaching Mathematics and Science subjects in indigenous languages.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu said this at the inauguration of inter-ministerial committee in teaching of Mathematics and Science subjects in Local languages in Abuja on Wednesday.

The inter-ministerial committee involved Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education. He said the inter-ministerial committee would help to develop the capacity of the local languages to serve as effective tools for teaching mathematics and science subjects.

According to him, the project will help Nigerian students to understand mathematics and science subjects better.

He said the project would also promote the application of science and technology for national development.

The minister expressed concern of the government over the low interest in mathematics and the science subjects by students.

Onu said various countries like India, China adopted a related strategy by teaching mathematics and the science subjects in their indigenous languages at the primary school level.

He added that those countries were making advancement in science and technology. “For us to build the country of our dreams, for us to make Nigeria a truly great nation, a nation that is able to feed and house its citizens, a nation with a stable currency, we must embrace science and technology.

“ Nigeria will remain dependent nation if the citizens did not embrace science and technology, because no nation can become great without science and technology.

“If Nigeria is to be great then, Nigerians must embrace science and technology.

“The socio-economic challenges we are facing in the country is as a result of inadequate application of science and technology,“ he said.

Onu said that graduates were no longer able to get jobs after their studies because the nation imports everything it needed.

I Caught My Husband Making Love In Our Bedroom

A 40-year -old trader, Mrs Folake Alimi, on Wednesday told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that she caught her husband making love to a girl on their matrimonial bed.

The woman said this while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband whom she accused of cheating on her. “I came home unannounced and I caught my husband making love to a girl; he jumped up when he noticed my presence.

“I also saw him with a woman in a hotel near our house when I went to buy food. “He begged me not to expose him because of his position in the church and I kept it a secret,” she said.

The respondent said her husband was always jealous and had often accused her of dating every man he saw her with. “My husband stopped me from working claiming men are dating me,” she said.

The mother of four said that what used to cause their frequent fights was his penchant for buying things for the children of his first wife and ignoring her own.

She begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of the marriage, claiming that she was still in love with him.

Her husband, Joseph, had approached the court seeking to end his 11-year-old marriage over his wife’s alleged infidelity.

“My wife is cheating on me, she receives calls from men at odd hours,” he said.

The petitioner accused his wife of going out and returning at will.

“My wife abandoned me and the children for one year for an unknown destination; she came back and left for another seven months.

“She was always going to parties and spending days before coming back,” the estranged husband said.

The 47-year-old businessman said that his wife’s son from another father, in company with a gang, attacked him in his church with cutlass, rods and other dangerous weapons.

“My step-son that I trained came to my church with his gang in order to beat me up because I beat his mother,” he said.

He urged the court to terminate the marriage, saying he was no longer in love with his wife.

The President of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case till June 28 for further hearing.

The Need To Address Mental Health Issues In Nigeria By Tony Ogunlowo

It's not only the mad people who wander the streets dressed in rags, talking to themselves, that have mental health issues. People will be surprised to learn that a lot of seemingly healthy and sane people have mental health issues.

Mental health problems covers a very wide spectrum ranging from the clinically insane ( 'were' or mad-man) who roam our streets, to those who were born with mental disorders and disabilities and finally to the closet mental health sufferers.

It's the last group, the closet-mental-health-sufferers, that I want to address here for they are the ones
who are most at risk and are either not aware of it or don't think it's a problem. These are the people who suffer from depression, anxiety, panic attacks etc. Left un-checked it can lead to hypertension or the individual developing suicidal thoughts.

According to the Commonwealth Health organisation the most commonly diagnosed mental illness in Africa is mood disorders caused by a number of things.

There are a lot of things that can cause an individual's mental health to deteriorate rapidly: the current economic climate with all the uncertainty, peer and family pressure and undisclosed personal problems.

According to Professor  Taiwo Lateef-Shiek, the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Kaduna, 80% of Nigerians with mental health problems don't seek proper help: they are more likely to go running to their pastors or babalawos or keep quiet about it. The recent rise in the number of people taking their own lives is a clear indication of this. If there is more awareness people won't be stigmatised and ashamed to seek help or commit suicide.

In the Western world there are periodic campaigns to alert people to the dangers of concealing a mental health problem – it can happen to anyone! Hollywood giants like the late Tony Scott and Robin Williams committed suicide after years of suffering from depression. And in the UK, recently, the Royal Princes Harry and William openly talked about their battle with depression following the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997.

In Africa, shame and the thought of being stigmatised prevents people from talking about their mental health problems until it is too late. Remember it can happen to anyone and any number of worldly problems can cause a person to lose the plot and go mad.

There is no shame in going to see a qualified practitioner (-definitely not your Pastor!) and discussing your problems. Sometimes all it takes is therapy, pills or a change in direction in life to clear your head. If you keep it to yourself hoping it'll go away you're wrong! It'll only keep on building up and up till one day you'll explode (- or implode)

Society also has a role to play in this – stop stigmatising people who have mental problems! You see 'were' or a mad-person on the street and start laughing at them, abusing them because they happen to be in the unfortunate position of not being able to control their faculties. Do you know what led to them losing their minds and ending up mad on the streets? You don't know! It could be a catalogue of problems ( - or a man-made curse!) that finally pushed them over the edge. At the end of the day they are somebody's brother, sister, uncle or mother. Show some empathy!

People with mental health problems just don't develop it overnight: it starts off gradually. Signs to look out for are erratic behaviour, loss of interest in things and aloofness, mood swings and uncontrollable emotional outbursts. If the problem is dealt with in its infancy the patient has a good chance of a full recovery.

In the absence of a comprehensive mental health care system we have to look out for each other; sometimes all it takes is a shoulder to cry upon, someone to talk to.

And to the charlatan- pastors out there – you can't cure every mental health sufferer out there with your brand of prayer sessions and God-knows-what: you're not a qualified psychiatrist who specialises in these matters.

And if you have a mental health problem don't hide away in shame- seek help! Your very life and well-being might depend on it!

Presidency Replies Fayose For Calling For Buhari’s resignation

The Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, has chastised Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his call for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari. He said the governor by his tirade against the president was portraying Ekiti in bad light. Mr. Fayose  called for the resignation of the president on grounds of his ill health.

‎”He can do us the great help by resigning. Not resigning bothers on his integrity. ‎ His absence allows others to suppress and oppress others and that means he is allowing others ‎to suppress their fellow human beings,” Mr. Fayose said.

“There are many governments in one and they are clueless. ‎ We need an active president going by our numerous challenges. ‎How long will Nigerians wait for an incapacitated president‎?

“We cannot wait again for somebody to hold us to ransom. ‎I don’t have any bad blood against Buhari, Osinbajo has no powers without the president. He owes us the duty to tell us the state ‎of his health.”

President Buhari has been in London for medical treatment for an undisclosed illness for about three weeks.

In his reaction, Mr. Ojudu described Mr. Fayose’s comments as disrespectful of a man old enough to be his father.

He wondered why Mr. Fayose would call for the president’s resignation at a time all Nigerians are praying for him.

“He (Fayose) has been quarrelling with everybody. Even in Ekiti, he is demolishing filling stations belonging to the opposition,” Mr. Ojudu, a former senator from Ekiti, stated.

“He has always been insulting the president and disparaging a man old enough to be his father.

“He is portraying Ekiti in a bad light. We are not like that. Is he the only governor, why is it that he is the only one making so much noise?”

Mr. Ojudu said Mr. Fayose had failed in governance, plunging his people into hardship and poverty.

“Right now, fuel is not being sold in Ekiti because he is busy demolishing filling stations under one guise of the other,” he continued.

“People are buying fuel from neighbouring states. People are suffering, they are tired of his ways.

“Go and tell him to concentrate on governance and to stop insulting the president.”

President Buhari To Improve The Well Being Of Nigerian Youths- Adesina

Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has called for the support of all Nigerians for President Muhammadu Buhari to bequeath a better future to the Nigerian youths.

Adesina made this call in a statement issued by Mr Attah Esa, Deputy Director (Information), Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, yesterday in Abuja.

Esa said the presidential aide stated this after receiving a Golden Leadership Award from the National Youths Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative.

Adesina maintained that President Buhari had remained in politics because of his desire to see a new Nigeria emerge for the upcoming generation.

‘‘One of the reasons President Buhari repeatedly contested for the position of the President of Nigeria was to see the country properly take care of young people.

‘‘He strongly believes there should be a better country for the future generation.

‘‘Tell your colleagues to team up with a government that envisages a better future for this country because Nigerians deserve a better future and that is what the President is aspiring to bequeath,’’ he said.

While presenting the award, the National Coordinator of the Youth Group, Mr Alabi Abiodun, commended Adesina for his exemplary role and service to the nation.

He described the President’s spokesman as a “lover of truth, mentor and icon for Nigerian youths’’

Manchester Mosques Refuse To Bury Suicide Bomber's Body

Councils and funeral directors have refused to deal with Salman Abedi's body as it emerged his corpse is currently being kept at a morgue outside Manchester.

Sources have said authorities will do 'everything in their power' to stop him being buried, cremated or laid to rest in the city.

The move comes just weeks after councils across the UK refused to deal with the remains of the Moors Murderer Ian Brady, who had wanted his ashes to be scattered in his home city of Glasgow.

A source told the Manchester Evening News: 'Just like Ian Brady, every effort is going in to making sure that there is not a chance Abedi can be buried or cremated in Greater Manchester.
'
Abedi's family cannot receive his body as his parents Ramadan and Samia as well as younger brother Hashem, 20, are in Libya.

His father and younger brother are still in detention in the country. Detectives said Hashem had links to ISIS and was planning to carry out a terror attack in Tripoli. His elder brother, Ismail, 24, remains in custody in Manchester.

Who Am I?

I was your leader, I held the country, but most of you went on to call me dumb. All sorts of names. You unseated me while I was ruling, now most of you wish I was still in office. To you lots, life has become unbearable, everyday you cry on twitter, you buy fuel for N145 now. A bag of rice is almost N20,000, beans you cant even tell. But during my time, there was food in abundance, you had money in your pockets.

Now most of you want me back, I am not coming back. I am fine going around the world and speaking about good governance. Duh! So do you know who I am?

Nigerians Behave Like Tenants In Their Own Country – Donald Duke

Former governor of Cross River, Donald Duke has called on Nigerians, especially young people, to play a pivotal role in leadership and governance.

Mr. Duke made this call at the Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders which held on May 30, 2017 at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to him, Nigerians behave like tenants in their country, thereby leaving older politicians and godfathers to take decisions on their behalf.

Themed 'Open Governance: Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government', the Symposium brings together leaders in politics, business, media, and more to discuss issues and challenges of open government and active citizenship.

Speaking during the panel session titled ‘Office of the Citizen’, Mr. Duke stated that Nigerian youth need to get involved to make a difference while in the prime of their lives, or suffer the consequences of not making the right demands from their government.

“Godfatherism grows out of mentorship... They are there to set you on a path, but do not let them enslave you. Right now, Nigerian youths have the numbers to make positive changes in this country, and they should use it," he said.

"There is a lot of contempt in government now because there are no consequences to wrong actions by the government. The failure in the country is the youths' inability to aspire for better lives and situations for themselves. They behave like tenants in their own country."
Speaking at the event, Rinsola Abiola, a youth advocate and media aide to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, urged Nigerian youth to make use of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill in requesting for information in order to make decisions.

Other speakers at the event include Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra; Deji Adeyanju, former PDP social media director; Demola Olarewaju, political strategist/analyst; Japheth Omojuwa, founder and chief strategist, Alpha Reach; Dayo Isreal, youth advocate; Arit Okpo, award-winning TV/Radio presenter; and Seun Okinbaloye, political correspondent, Channels TV.

Venus Williams Not Sure What To Expect From Aunthood

Venus Williams has always tended to be the more reticent sister in terms of giving out personal information in comparison to younger sister, Serena.

So it came as no surprise that her lips were locked when asked if she already knew that Serena was expecting a baby with fiance Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, during the Australian Open in January.

“Well, I don't like to talk too much, so my mouth will always be shut,” Williams said, smiling. “But I'm definitely looking forward to it. I have no idea what the experience will be like because previously I became an aunt when I was very young and lived far away, across the country (in Florida), so it was a completely different experience than it will be this time.

“So I hope that I can live up to this job. I've got to get some confidence that I can do this. It's all new for me. It's a great journey.”

Asked what she anticipates her responsibilities might be as Aunt Venus and she admitted that’s her biggest concern.

“I don't know yet, that’s the problem,” she said, laughing. “I don't know how well I'm going to do, because I don't know what to do. I think you just have to be ready, aware and alert. Then have a lot of diaper duty.”

And Trump Does It Again On Twitter With ODD Word

In true Donald Trump style, the President of the United States has triumphed on Twitter once again. Much to the pleasure of his followers, thousands of Twitter users were stumped when he posted a baffling update to his feed.

Just six words in his latest Tweet have given immeasurable joy to some as they made the most of his unfortunate mistake, hmm. The president posted: "Despite the constant negative press covfefe". [What does not mean?]

If some were searching for context to the odd update, then we are sorry, you might never find a meaning.

Oddly, the Tweet remained up long enough for exactly 48,000 people to retweet and have over 59,000 likes.

It has also sparked some brilliant debate and responses.

The trend description accurately summed up what thousands were thinking - "the mystery of Trump's covfefe"

Some started heated debate.

Some truly embraced all that was great about this tweet and started debating how to accurately pronounce the word.

After eating, you may be tired and may want to lie down to rest a bit. You should wait until the food digest before you do. But, if it is absolutely necessary for you to do so, endeavour to lie on your left side because food digest faster and quicker if you sleep this way.

Do not wear tight attires

Wearing tight attires does not only lead to irritation during pregnancy, it also puts pressure on your abdomen thus making you vulnerable to heartburn. It is advisable to wear loose clothing.

Chew gum

If you have a serious heartburn, you should chew gum. This allows saliva to flow freely and this can minimise your body acid levels.

Maintain a healthy weight

Naturally, women add weight when they are pregnant. However, being overweight increases your risk of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and you may suffer from intermittent heartburn as a result.

Lionel Richie Monitors Daughter On Facetime As She Spends Time With Scott Disick In France

She's partied the past few days away with self-confessed 'sex addict' Scott Disick. But while at 18 she's officially an adult, Sofia Richie still has to answer to a certain Mr Richie – her dad.

And it seems that despite the distance between them, U.S.-based pop star Lionel was keeping a close eye on his daughter as she lived it up in the South Of France.

The teen was pictured FaceTiming with her 67-year-old father on her iPhone as she walked in Monaco with Disick and a group of friends. And it looked to be a serious conversation, with Lionel's face filling the screen as he chatted with Sofia.

For her part, the young model concentrated on her father as she walked alongside Disick - who seemed to be listening in - and her friends.

When she'd said her farewells, Scott checked in with Sofia, with the two having a brief conversation of their own.

While Sofia has been pictured living it up with Scott in France, she made it clear to her fans that she wouldn't dream of dating the 34-year-old father-of-three, which we think it’s better for her, lol.

Ekweremadu Hails Arraignment Of Whistleblower

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu yesterday asked the police to conduct thorough investigation to determine the masterminds of the raid in his Abuja guest house.

Ekweremadu stated this while hailing Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris on the prosecution of one of the false whistleblowers, who the police claimed misled them into raiding his official guest house in Abuja on Friday.

Reacting to the arraignment of the suspect, Ahmed Echodo, before an Upper Area Court, Gudu, Abuja, yesterday, Ekweremadu said such would serve as a lesson to other false whistleblowers and agencies of government.

The Deputy Senate President, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media)  Uche Anichukwu in Abuja, noted that beyond the arraignment, the police should dig deeper to determine if there were influential masterminds behind the incident.

Ekweremadu said: “I want to give the police hierarchy the benefit of doubt that it did not authorise the impunity, harassment and witch-hunt executed by police officers on my official guest house last Friday, and that the police were misled.

“I hope the swift arraignment of the alleged whistle blowers will be emulated by other security and anti-corruption agencies and also serve as a deterrent to those who lend themselves as willing tools to people out to intimidate and persecute others as well as tarnish their image for whatever motives.

“But beyond the arraignment, I urge the police to dig deeper to determine if there were influential masterminds behind the incident as a bird does not dance by the roadside without a drumbeater somewhere in the bush.

“Perhaps, if the attempt on my life on November 17, 2015 was taken seriously by the security agencies, those who desperately seek to destroy me by all means possible would have been fished out or had a rethink.”

He noted that although the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, earlier insisted that the raid during which nothing incriminating was found was not carried out by men of the force, the police, however, yesterday arraigned Echodo for allegedly conspiring with one Maiwada Adamu, now at large, to mislead them into the raid.

"(I have not heard) something this big before." This is so sad.
