Katsina man chains, tortures wives for 10 months

The police in Katsina State have arrested a middle-aged man, identified simply as Samaila, for allegedly chaining and torturing his two wives, Fatima Salisu and Hadiza Musa, in his home for 10 months.

Fatima hails from the Markemagaji Gari village, while Hadiza is from the Kalyarubandaba village, both in Katsina State.

The two women, aged 20 years each, have no children with the suspect.

Samaila was picked up by police detectives from the home he shares with the victims at the Yannadabaiyye village in the Rimi Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

He was arrested by policemen from the Rimi Divisional Police Headquarters before he was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department of the command on Monday.

The spokesman for the command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed Samaila’s arrest.

He, however, did not give details of the case, stressing that it was still under investigation.

Punch correspondent gathered that the two women were saved by providence when Hadiza’s mother decided to pay her a surprise visit.

It was learnt that the old woman pleaded with Samaila to allow her take away a sewing machine she bought for her daughter since it was not being used.

Samaila reportedly refused to release the sewing machine and assaulted his mother-in-law in the process.

The woman reported the incident at the Rimi Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting the police to invite the suspect for questioning.

Not satisfied with Samaila’s responses to basic questions, detectives were sent to search his house.

The search led to the discovery of the two women in very terrible conditions.

Items recovered from the house include large chains used by the suspect to restrain the women, assorted charms and weapons.

In an interview at the police station, Fatima and Hadiza painted a horrific picture of their ordeal.

They alleged that their husband locked them up in a room after which he shaved their pubic hair and cut their fingernails with which he prepared a concoction, which he forced them to consume.

Hadiza said, “Samaila never allowed us to leave the room. We did everything in the room; we bathe and answered the call of nature there.

“He always chained us and only removed the chains whenever he wanted to have sex with any of us; he would have sex with any of us that he fancied, while the other watched.”

Hadiza also removed her veil to show her back, which was full of sores allegedly from the beating Samaila subjected her to. She further alleged that the suspect used to flog her and Fatima with electric wires.

Fatima told the police that she was subjected to the inhuman treatment for 10 months before Samaila married Hadiza, who joined her in captivity 10 weeks ago.

She explained that it was a taboo for any of them to let their husband know when they were observing their monthly period, because he threatened to kill them if he discovered that they were menstruating.

The two women could not say what Samaila’s source of livelihood was but stated that he regularly returned home with several wads of N500 notes.

A Katsina-based non-governmental organisation, Gender Associates and Social Inclusion, has taken interest in the plight of the two women.

WHO declares #Coronavirus international public health emergency

The World Health Organisation has declared Coronavirus epidemic as an international Public Health Emergency.

The decision Thursday came as the number of people diagnosed with the 2019-nCoV virus had skyrocketed to more than 8,200, surpassing the SARS case toll. There are also now people in at least 18 other countries with the virus.

“Over the past few weeks we have witnessed the emergence of a previously unknown pathogen which has escalated into an unprecedented outbreak,” WHO’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said.

Just a week ago, the agency determined the formal “public health emergency of international concern,” or PHEIC, declaration, was premature.

The deadly disease has killed at least 170 in China when it was first discovered.

50 Cent receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

50 Cent has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and it was quite a ceremony, with appearances from Eminem and Dr Dre and, unexpectedly, a diss at noughties rock band Evanescence.

The In Da Club rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, attended the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard on Thursday (30 January), where large crowds gathered to watch the milestone moment in Fiddy’s career. Looking especially dapper in a two-piece grey suit and red polo neck jumper, 50 Cent was joined by close friend and Power actress Lala Anthony as he accepted the honour.

But he was particularly touched that his old pal Eminem, 47, made the effort to support him and deliver a speech that was, frankly, beautiful.

‘Of all the things I don’t remember about 2002, I have a very clear memory of the first time I met 50,’ Eminem told the audience who cheered along.

‘One of the first things I noticed about 50 was his presence because it just kind of felt like, he’s gonna be a star… It just seemed like he was the whole package.’

Eminem clearly had a crystal ball at the time as Fiddy went on to become one of the biggest rap stars and music moguls.

Kobe Bryant could get street named after him in L.A... officials discussing options

L.A. City officials are having discussions on how to honor the late Lakers superstar and naming a street after Kobe is definitely up for consideration.

No official decisions have been made. It's still early in the process, but L.A. City Council members have already started the conversation.

One source says something that keeps getting brought up is some sort of tribute in the L.A. Live area right across from Staples Center, where Kobe balled out for nearly 20 years.

There should be more clarity about the plans early next week -- but it's definitely top of mind.

The Lakers will return to Staples Center on Friday to take on the Portland Trail Blazers ... the first game at Kobe's home court since his death on Sunday.

The turn out is expected to be massive  as the Lakers are planning several tributes to the Mamba, his daughter, Gianna, and the other 7 people who died in Sunday's helicopter crash.

Rob Kardashian not dating Tommie Lee, despite Wendy Williams' heavy claim

Rob Kardashian hasn't moved on from Blac Chyna with Tommie Lee despite heavy spec from Wendy Williams.

Sources close to Rob tell TMZ, recent reports claiming he's been dating the 'Love & Hip Hop' star are 100 percent untrue. They are told Rob and Tommie know each other, but they aren't close and don't even talk regularly.

Tommie's got her own show coming in the next few months, so any shot of Rob being on that is gone too.

Williams slammed Rob on her show Thursday for allegedly dating Tommie, someone she says has a worse track record than his ex, Blac Chyna.

While it's true Tommie does have quite the rap sheet -- especially after multiple arrests and a child abuse case in the past 2 yearsm but then it's all irrelevant, at least when it comes to Rob's dating life.

For the record ... Tommie's clearly not happy with Wendy's comments either and has sounded off on the talk show host in her Instagram stories.

Married woman paid N30k to act porn commits suicide

A married woman who got N30,000 for acting a pornographic video which went viral in Jos, Plateau state, has committed suicide.

According to NAN, the video which was uploaded on the internet weeks ago showed some young girls and married women engaging in sexual acts.

It was gathered that a man identified as Emeka, who resides at the Rayfield area of Jos, took the girls and women to a hotel in the same area to shoot the videos.

Emeka was said to have interviewed the women before stripping them n.a.k.e.d and having s.e.x with them on camera.

He paid the victims N30,000 each with a promise to pay additional N100,000 at a later date.

The practice had reportedly gone on for about three years, with over 50 girls and women featuring in the videos.

The video had generated reactions from the public with the victims becoming stigmatized.

Two girls who approached the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) office in the state said poverty and lack of need forced them to engage in the immoral act.

“This happened two years ago. My nephew was at the point of death and I needed to help my sister with money for his treatment. I met a lady at a beer parlour who told me about the man and I quickly agreed to do it,” one of the girls said.

“The painful part is that after I took the money home, my nephew still died. He promised us that he would release the videos outside Jos, but I later realised he only played us as we are not literate enough to know that once it’s on the internet, everybody can see it.”

Mary Izam, FIDA chairperson, said the association in collaboration with Red Cross and Teens Partners, has organised a rehabilitation process to save the victims from depression.

She said a married woman, who was one of the victims, had committed suicide after being stigmatized by members of the society.

Izam described the act as unacceptable and a crime against woman dignity and right as well as an offence against the nation.

She said the association and its partners would do all they can to ensure that the perpetrator was brought to book.

The chairperson urged women to engage in moral activities in order to avoid tarnishing their names and bringing the state to disrepute.

She called on other victims to utilise the rehabilitation process, adding that running away will be of no good to them and their loved ones.

Jeff Bezos is $13billion richer! He made it in minutes..

Jeff Bezos just added billions to his massive fortune -- which is nothing new for him, but what's new this time ... it only took a few strokes of the clock to make that increase.

Stock for the Amazon honcho's company surged 12 percent in a matter of 15 minutes Thursday afternoon, which equaled an astounding 11-digit increase to his bottom line.

The astronomical math? Bloomberg says Jeff added $13.2 BILLION just from the surge, which raises his net worth to about $129.5 billion. Forbes was a wee bit more modest, reporting Bezos added $12.8 billion to his portfolio, with a new net worth of $128.9 billion.

On an even grander scale -- the stock boost pushed Amazon's market cap north of $1 TRILLION!!! That's a lot of zeroes.

Suspected visa fraudsters swindle 50 victims of N15m

Justice Oladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court on Thursday ordered that Semiu Oluwole Ololade and Adegboyega Adefuye be remanded in Agodi correctional custody till February 4 when the bail applications filed on their behalf in a criminal suit preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, will be entertained.

Their respective companies as well Ololade’s Frenage Global Multiservices Limited were joined in the suit.

However, after fulfilling their side of the bargain, the petitioners alleged that they later found out that the accused only used the ‘scheme’ to extort them.

When the charges were read to them in court, the accused pleaded not guilty to all, prompting the prosecution counsel, Babatunde Sonoiki, to pray for an order to remand them in the correctional custody and an adjournment for definite trial.

However, the defendants’ counsel called the attention of the court to the bail applications he had filed on their behalf.

When asked to respond, the EFCC lawyer said he was only served the applications at the court premises same day and needed time to respond.

Justice Akintola has fixed February 4, 2020 for arguments on the bail application. He also gave the order that the accused be remanded in the correctional custody pending that adjourned date.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis honor Kobe Bryant with tattoos

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James appeared to debut a new tattoo in honor of the late Kobe Bryant, who died on Jan. 26 in a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of his 13-year-old daughter and seven more victims.

In a short video posted to his Instagram Story on Wednesday, James, 35, revealed he was in the process of getting a tattoo on his left thigh. Though James didn’t unveil the finished design, photographers caught a glimpse of his new body art during a team workout on Thursday morning.

Because the ink is covered by a clear bandage, it’s difficult to decipher exactly what artist Vanessa Aurelia tattoed on the three-time NBA champion. Photos appear to show a snake, in reference to Bryant’s “Black Mamba“ nickname, along with the words, “Mamba 4 Life.”

Meanwhile, Lakers star Anthony Davis also shared a video of himself receiving a similar tattoo from Aurelia, but he, too, hasn’t revealed what he received.

Joe Biden, 77, admits he needs a Vice President who can 'take over immediately' if he dies in office

Joe Biden has said that if he becomes president in this year's election, he would need to appoint a vice president capable of taking over the job at a moment's notice in case he dies while in office.

'I can think of at least eight women, at least four or five people of color, that I think are totally qualified to be vice president of the United States,' the former vice president said during a campaign event in Clinton, Iowa.

'But for me, it has to be demonstrated that whoever I pick is two things: One, is capable of being president because I'm an old guy,' the 77-year-old Biden said.

'No, I'm serious. Look, I thank God I'm in great health. I work out. No, I'm serious. You know, I work out every morning. I'm in good shape — knock on wood, as my mother would say,' Biden said during a question and answer session as reported by the Washington Examiner.

'I released all my medical records,' Biden added. 'But you never know. You never know what's going on. And I'm sure what would happen is I have — some people looking would say, 'Is the person Biden picked capable of, God forbid something happened to Biden, that they would be able to take over immediately?'

2 men kidnap policemen at roadblock, on reaching another police barrier, they ran away, leaving lorry behind

Two men from Malindi, Kilifi County, Kenya have been arrested on allegations of kidnapping two police officers.

The suspects are said to have kidnapped the law enforcement officers, who were manning a roadblock on Sabaki bridge early Thursday.

Police told K24 Digital that the suspects, who were travelling in a lorry, had been flagged down by the police officers. The cops entered the back of the lorry to inspect the goods that had been carried in the truck.

The driver of the lorry and his turn-boy are said to have, thereafter, locked the police officers in the back of the lorry before igniting the engine and speeding towards Mombasa direction.

The suspects reached yet another roadblock, and were ordered to stop, but they defied the orders.

The cops who were manning the second roadblock fired in the air to scare the suspects, but none of the two men heeded the warning. They continued speeding towards Mombasa.

It took the intervention of boda boda riders to facilitate the suspects’ arrest.

The motorbike riders are said to have placed boulders on the road ahead, forcing the suspects to decelerate, switch off the lorry’s engine and flee the scene.

The suspects were, however, cornered, and handed over to police officers, who were pursuing them.

The area’s boda boda chairman, Joseph Mwangu, told K24 Digital that they decided to help in stopping the lorry after it “became clear that the vehicle’s occupants were up to no good, given they had defied a stop order”.

Malindi Sub-County police boss, Vitalis Otieno, said the suspects, who are in custody, will be charged with attempted abduction.

Father repeatedly defiled 10-year-old daughter, doctor tells court

A driver, Ogbar, 51, repeatedly defiled his 10-year-old daughter in their home in Lagos, a medical doctor, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe, told the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Alagbe, a consultant at the Mirabel Centre (a sexual assault referral centre), has 14 years working experience at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where he works at the Department of Family Medicine.

While being led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, Mrs Arinola Momoh-Ayokanbi, the medical doctor told the court that he was before the court to interprete the child’s medical report, which was made by one Dr Olaniyi, who had examined the child but had since left the service of LASUTH.

Alagbe said the complainant on the day of the examination was accompanied to the Mirabel Centre by the mother of the victim and a female pastor.

He said the victim had told Dr Olaniyi that she was defiled repeatedly by her father and that her younger brother had witnessed some of the sexual abuses.

“The victim said her father had repeatedly had sexual intercourse with her and that her younger brother (name withheld) had repeatedly seen the father perform sexual acts repeatedly on her.

“She said the father had threatened her not to tell anyone and that the last incident had occurred on April 28, 2016,” he said.

Giving the findings from the genitalia of the complainant, the medical doctor also revealed that the child was defiled vaginally and anally by her father.

“She had a foul-smelling discharge from the vagina. The hymen was half-moon shaped (crescenteric) with a healed laceration called notch at 6’o clock.

“The lower third of the vaginal canal was easily seen and the posterior fourchette had linear healed lacerations which measured approximately 1.5 centimetres.

“The genital findings are in tandem with repeated forceful penetration into the client’s vagina and anus,” Alagbe said.

He noted that the statements of the complainant’s mother and pastor corroborated the accounts of the child that she was repeatedly abused sexually by her father.

While being cross-examined by the Defence Counsel, Mr Peter Odoeme, Alagbe said the injuries on the hymen were consistent with those caused by forceful blunt penetration, which could be caused by penis.

“The skillful methodology used by the doctor made the inference that the pattern of injuries found on the client was in tandem with the client’s verbal declaration that a penis was used,” he said.

Following the cross-examination of the medical doctor, Momoh-Ayokanbi announced to the court that the prosecution was closing its case.

Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the case until March 24 for defence.

NAN reports that on March 25, 2019, two of Ogbar’s daughters aged 23 and 25 had testified that the defendant had a history of defiling his daughters.

They had told the court that Ogbar had also defiled them from their pre-teen years till their teenage years.

The sisters told the court that they had on different occasions fled their home because of the sexual abuse and that their younger sister had revealed the alleged abuse to a teacher in their school, who in turn alerted the authorities.

Testifying on February 25, 2019, Ogbar’s wife (name withheld) told the court that when she confronted her spouse about the allegations, he gave a vehement denial.

“I asked my third daughter about what she told her teacher about the sexual assault and she kept quiet and was staring at me.

“I confronted my husband. He said that it was a gang up and conspiracy against him by our daughters. I told him that a young child cannot come up with such allegations against him.

“Ever since I confronted him, I had no peace at home, he used to beat and threaten me.”
