Three students jailed 33 years in Cyprus for killing Nigerian

The killer of Nigerian student, Walshak Augustine Ngok, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison while two others received 3-year jail term each for their role in the crime.

The judicial process into the murder of Walshak Augustine Ngok, a Nigerian national, who was murdered in April 2019, in northern Cyprus has been completed, and judgment delivered.

Court president Nüvit Gazi, Senior Judge Şerife Kâtip and Judge Umut İnan, who constitute the Lefkosa High Criminal Court, announced the unanimous decision of the delegation on Monday, May 10, 2021.

The culprit, Chrstopher Ezeh, a Nigerian was sentenced to 27 years, while Nana Nkansah, a Ghanaian and Wayne Moyo, a Zimbabwean, who helped transport the body, were sentenced to three years each.

Walshak Ngok, 25 was found dead in a forest area in Haspolat – Tashkent highway on Friday, April, 19. An autopsy carried out by the police showed that he died from head trauma and suffocation.

Twelve people including 11 males and 1 female were later arrested in connection with the incident in two separate operations carried out in Gonyeli and an apartment located in the Lavinyum Site in Dikmen on Sunday, April 21.

Christopher Ezeh, who was a roommate to the victim, confessed to killing Augustine after a row and taking his body to a forest area.

According to a report at the time of the incident, on the day of the incident, it was learnt that the suspect and the victim who both took alcohol were in the company with some friends in a restaurant in Girne eating when trouble started due to issues over a girl.

Some of their friends who were there tried to broker peace between them before police arrived at the scene. The two were said to have continued fighting when they later got home.

Christopher reportedly beat Walshak Augustine severely which made him unconscious. He then dragged him down the stairs of the apartment where he continued to beat a helpless Augustine.

When he noticed that his victim was no longer breathing, he decided to take him to Haspolat- Taskent forest area and dumped him at the entrance of the forest area instead of going to the hospital. The other suspects confessed that they could not prevent the accused due to the severity of his anger.

Gazi, who read the verdict, underlined that the crime of murder committed by the defendant is one of the most serious crimes envisaging a life imprisonment. Pointing out that crimes of killing have increased in recent years, Gazi emphasised that the right to life is the most fundamental right and that it is a necessity to enjoy all other rights, and that the defendant takes away all the rights of the deceased.

Derek Chauvin qualifies for a longer sentence in George Floyd’s murder, judge rules

Derek Chauvin abused his authority as a police officer when he pressed his knee into George Floyd’s neck until he went limp and treated him with “particular cruelty,” qualifying him for a longer prison sentence, a judge said.

In a ruling made public Wednesday, Hennepin County District Judge Peter A. Cahill found state prosecutors had proved beyond a reasonable doubt four of five aggravating factors in Floyd’s killing that they argued should result in a tougher prison sentence for the former Minneapolis police officer.

Chauvin was convicted April 20 of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s May 25 killing. Floyd died when Chauvin placed his knees on Floyd’s neck and back for more than nine minutes while he was handcuffed, facedown, on a Minneapolis street. Chauvin, who is being held in solitary confinement at a Minnesota prison, is scheduled to be sentenced June 25.

Although a jury found Chauvin guilty on all three charges he was facing, Minnesota law dictates he will face sentencing only on the most serious charge: second-degree murder. State sentencing guidelines on that charge recommend 11 to 12 years in prison for someone with no criminal history.

But prosecutors last fall and again last month asked Cahill for what is known as an “upward sentencing departure,” citing several factors they argued should open Chauvin up to a maximum of 40 years in prison.

In his ruling, Cahill agreed with prosecutors that Chauvin had “abused a position of trust and authority” as a police officer and that Chauvin “knew from his training and experience” that his restraint was putting Floyd in “danger of positional asphyxia.”

“The prolonged use of this technique was particularly egregious in that George Floyd made it clear he was unable to breathe and expressed his view that he was dying as a result of the officers’ restraint,” Cahill wrote, referring to Chauvin and the other two officers who restrained him.

The judge pointed to Chauvin’s decision to stay on top of Floyd — even after another officer at the scene, Thomas K. Lane, asked whether they should roll Floyd onto his side and another, J. Alexander Kueng, told him he could no longer detect a pulse. “Not only was the danger of asphyxia theoretical, it was communicated to the defendant as actually occurring,” Cahill wrote. “But [Chauvin] continued his restraint.”

Cahill also agreed with prosecutors that Chauvin had been “particularly cruel” to Floyd, ignoring his cries for breath during his lengthy restraint. “Mr. Floyd was begging for his life and obviously terrified by the knowledge he was likely to die,” Cahill wrote, adding that Chauvin “remained indifferent to Mr. Floyd’s pleas.”

The judge also sided with prosecutors on two other aggravating factors — that Chauvin committed the crime with the “active participation” of the three officers at the scene and that Floyd was killed in front of children, including a 9-year-old girl.

Prince Harry reveals he first met wife Meghan Markle in a supermarket

Prince Harry has revealed he first met wife Meghan Markle in a supermarket and they pretended they didn’t know who each other were.

The pair acted like they were grabbing some essentials at the shops as they got together for the first time.

The royal couple did their best to stay “incognito” to avoid attracting attention.

Harry says he wore a cap and was looking at the floor as they finally met up – but still got plenty of ‘weird looks’.

The Duke of Sussex was speaking Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

He said: “The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn’t know each other, texting each other from the other side of the aisles.

“There’s people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks, and coming up to me and saying ‘hi’.

“I texted her saying “is this the right one”, and she said “no you want parchment paper”, and “I’m like where’s the parchment paper?!”

“I had baseball cap on, looking down at the floor, trying to stay incognito. It’s amazing how much chewing gum you see, it’s a mess!”

He went on to say he really loves living a quiet life in America.

CAN sends prayer points to all churches over State of the Nation

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged all churches and Christians to embark on three days of prayers for the nation, to seek divine intervention over the spate of kidnappings and killings.

CAN made the plea to all christians in a letter released by its General Secretary, Daramola Joseph.

The letter was titled: ‘National days of soberness and fervent prayers for God’s mercy by Christians in Nigeria.’

The letter not only urged Christians to pray, but it also advised them on when to pray and what to ask God to do, spelling out the prayer points.

Daramola Joseph’s letter to all Christians:

“This is to inform you that the CAN President, in view of the continuous killings, banditry and host of other problems in Nigeria has considered it imperative and absolutely necessary that our country needs prayers for God’s mercy and intervention in our land.

“Consequently, all local churches are expected to gather in the evening of each day (May 28 – 30th) set aside for the prayers to pray to God in the attitude of mourning or soberness for the bloodshed of many innocent Nigerians most especially Christians.

“In the light of these, the following are the suggested prayer points to be followed during the said prayer meetings:

“That we are sad and pained for the blood of many innocent Nigerians that evil people in our midst had shed or for those kidnapped and abused in various ways.

“That our leaders would do justice in leadership and show fairness to all ethnic and religious groups in all their actions so as to douse ethnic and religious tensions we have presently.

“That the law enforcement agents would rise to their responsibilities and provide the necessary security we need in Nigeria.

“That every step the terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, gunmen and other wicked people in our midst take henceforth would be failed. That unseen hands and army of the Lord would fight them and Nigeria would be at peace.

“That the plans of the evil people in our midst to paralyze human, social and economic activities in this nation and throw the nation into chaos would be foiled by the Lord Jesus Christ. “That God should forgive our sins wherever we as a church or Nigerians, especially our leaders had sinned against God.

“That any religious madness or war that would not allow us to worship God in the way we are convinced to worship Him would be nullified by the Lord.

“Pray that the church would prevail over all threats to her existence in Nigeria. That the gate of hell will never prevail against the church in the name of Jesus. Pray and plant righteousness, Godliness, prosperity, peace and love in our nation.

“Pray for the speedy recovery of our nation from all our losses so that this nation might become very soon a nation that everyone in the world would love to be.

“Pray to break the yoke of generational curse that might have been placed on Nigeria and her leadership during the slave trade by the victims.”

Kufre Effiong FINALLY speaks, Uduak who murdered Umoren is my cousin

Kufre Effiong has finally broken silence after a report by one David Hundeyin linked him to the murder of Iniobong Umoren – the job-seeking Akwa Ibom lady killed by Uduak Frank Akpan.

David Hundeyin, in his report, accused the Akwa Ibom police of trying to cover up the murder of Umoren because it was carried out by a well-connected criminal gang.

He claimed that Kufre Effiong, who is a senior civil servant working at the Niger Delta Ministry headed by Senator Godswill Akpabio, was in contact with Uduak before his arrest.

Hundeyin claimed that the police must arrest Kufre and get other top members of the alleged well-connected criminal gang.

However, Kufre Effiong has now come out to reveal all he knows about the case.

Please read his full statement below:

My name is Kufre Effiong. I am aware of some social media publications attempting to link me up with the gruesome murder of Late Ms. INIOBONG UMOREN.

At first, I had wanted to maintain silence and allow the Police and the various agencies involved in the matter to conclude their investigations and come up with a comprehensive report but it now appears clear to me that silence is not golden in this matter where my hard-earned reputation has continued to gather moss in the most misguided, misleading and mischievous manner in the court of the Nigerian social media.

Consequently, I am left with no other option than to make this public statement narrating my role in the trending subject and this I do, not to convince or change the predetermined positions and conviction of people who are bent on imputing ills even on the best of human’s intention for I have already warned myself that no matter how hard and loudly the truth speaks for itself, there are some who would prefer and give themselves to alternative facts. I leave such men and women in the hands of God, time and posterity.

With all modesty and good conscience, I make this statement for the records and information of members of the public who are genuinely concerned about the need to know my true side of the story.

The day was Friday, 30th of April, 2021 and the time was about 2 pm when I was called by my Dad who lives in Lagos, asking whether I have seen a trending article on the social media linking Uduak (who is my cousin) with a kidnap case.

Not long afterward, another cousin of mine who is incidentally the Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council called to intimate me on the same social media circulations and requested me to come to his house as Uduak’s father, Mr. Frank Akpan has been reportedly arrested on account that the son, Uduak has absconded.

On arrival at the Chairman’s house, he told me that he was concerned that the arrested old man was sick and needed medication since he did not carry his drugs to the police station.

According to the Chairman, some kinsmen were calling seeking his intervention to explore the possibility of allowing the old man access to his medications.

I was still at the Chairman’s house discussing Mr. Frank Akpan’s case when in the presence of the DPO who had a meeting with the Chairman and another DSP, Uduak called my phone asking if I knew where his father was.

Initially, I was upset with Uduak for asking me the whereabouts of his father and immediately signaled the DPO that Uduak was the person who called and somehow, I managed to find the composure telling him that I was seeing the trending social media news involving him.

Then Uduak said he had no credit and requested me to call him. Obliging to this his request, I called him back asking where he was and he replied that he was at Oron. Further asking about the missing girl, Uduak claimed that he lose contact with the girl when she got to Ibiaku, stating that he has neither seen nor heard from her since then.

He practically claimed to be innocent.

At that point, I encouraged him to turn himself in by going to the Idu Police Division to clear himself so his father can be released to go and take his drugs or that I can link him up with the DPO who is closed to us.

Later, in the presence of one of our brothers, a Barrister who had come to see the Chairman, I forwarded the DPO’s phone number to Uduak. It was not long afterwards when Uduak called the DPO who encouraged him to come out, assuring him that he could personally come to the Shelter Afrique Junction to pick him up on arrival.

While there all waiting and praying that the suspect does not change his mind, Uduak called the DPO informing him that he has arrived Shelter Afrique Junction.

The DPO then suggested that he will not go with his car to pick him so he does not panic and react adversely on sighting his car which has tinted glass.

Rather, he requested that I drove him to the location and thus, accompanied by the DSP, I drove the DPO in my car to Shelter Afrique Junction where the suspect was picked up by the DPO.

Meanwhile, before we moved out, the Council Chairman had instructed that the suspect be taken to the Anti-kidnapping Unit directly but the DPO advised that he should first be taken Chairman’s house to calmed him down and encourage him to cooperate with the Police and thus, the suspect was taken to Ewet Housing.

At Ewet Housing, the suspect still denied knowing the whereabouts of the deceased, maintaining that he last heard from her when she said she has got to Ibiaku Junction but when we pressure him further, the suspect requested that he needed audience with the Chairman and myself alone.

So, we took him in urging him to tell us the truth to enable us assist him where necessary. It was at that point that Uduak mentioned for the first time that the missing young lady actually got to his house. On hearing that, I could not find any emotional intelligence or coordination other than to ask and I asked straight, “is she alive?” Uduak started crying and shook his head to indicate that she was no more!

At that point, I lose it completely and almost fainted but managed to give him few slaps. I became completely distraught, devastated, incensed and confused at the same time. I was wailing like a woman who has just lost all and so was the Chairman. With that mixed frustration and infuriation, we quickly handed the suspect back to the DPO to take to the Anti-kidnapping Unit and this, we did without any second thought, telling the DPO that we had washed our hands off the matter and would not wish to be associated with it.

Accordingly, the suspect was taken to Police custody where interrogations and thorough investigations are being carried out by the Police and the sister law enforcement agencies. I have no doubt that the suspect would have made useful statements to the Police to guide their further actions on the matter.

Unfortunately, social media has been overflowing with so many damaging publications trying to link me up with the crime and further extending it beyond the specific incidence of Late Ms Umoren to an atrocious trade on human parts.

Well, I want to state that I do not know about the suspect’s activities since he never lived or grew up with me. My role in the entire case is as stated and remains verifiably so.

Voluntarily on my own, I have made a statement to the Police on record and they are fully aware of my role in the case. I have also assured them of my cooperation whenever and wherever I may necessarily be called upon.

As a human, I am deeply saddened and devastated by the turn out of event as all the three of us namely the DPO, the Council Chairman and myself who facilitated the arrest of the suspect are now facing false, malicious and damaging media attack trying desperately to link us with the offense in respect of which we made lots of sacrifices to ensure the suspect got into the Police net where he is currently being detained, interrogated and investigated.

Personally, I have been receiving threat messages from some over-zealous individuals who have labeled me a trader on human parts. Now everybody who has lost a friend or family member to kidnap cases, view me as the culprit. I no longer feel safe walking the street as a simple and ordinary man that I have always been but I have no regret that I measured up squarely to that responsibility of bringing out the criminal suspect face to face with the law.

I am consoled that the suspect is in lawful custody and will be prosecuted in line with the law of our land. So, if this is the price I have to pay for bringing the murderer of my sister from another mother to face the law, I embrace this very heavy burden and trust that both time and God will be kind enough to redeem my image so misguidedly tarnished.

My only regret is that there is no absolute reparation and replacement for the tender life so heartlessly and callously terminated at its prime stage. I commiserate with family and friends of the dearly departed and hope that justice will be done in the matter.

Notwithstanding above, honestly being my role in the matter and my conscience being crystal clear, if any person or group of persons know more than the Police do or possess within their exclusive preserves, any evidence linking me or anyone else with the criminal act of Uduak Frank Akpan, they should freely approach the Police authority and make useful disclosures on such information rather than submerge the public media with speculative allegations aimed at constituting media trials and securing street convictions for very responsible persons who played sensitive and critical roles leading to the arrest of the suspect by the Police.
Thank you.

Champions League final between Man City and Chelsea set to be moved to Portugal from Istanbul

The Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City will be moved to Porto’s Estadio do Dragao from Istanbul, UEFA is set to announce.

UEFA had wanted to move the final to Wembley and was in talks with the UK government, but there was a considerable sticking point over waiving quarantine rules for the 2,000 staff, sponsors, VIPs and foreign media.

The fixture was due to take place at the Ataturk Stadium on May 29, but pressure mounted for the venue to be changed after the UK government placed Turkey on its ‘red’ list of at-risk countries and urged fans not to travel for the fixture. UK citizens returning from red-list countries are required to quarantine at a government-approved hotel for 10 days.

The capacity at the Estadio do Dragao is 50,000 and UEFA is in talks with the Portuguese government to allow 20,000 to attend the final. That would mean up to 6,000 tickets for fans of each club.

Fans have not been allowed to attend games in Portugal this season but the Portuguese league announced on Wednesday that they would be able to watch the final round of league games next Wednesday with stadium capacities capped at 10 per cent.

Pastor turned stripper says s.e.x work has made her a better mum than church upbringing

A church pastor who has become a stripper says her new job has given her crucial life skills that have prepared her better than ever to be a parent.
Nikole Mitchell grew up in a baptist family in Ohio, US, and became even more religious in her 20s – spending six years not even kissing a man as “Jesus was my boyfriend”.
But when she started evaluating her sexuality she decided to opt for a dramatic career change by becoming a stripper.
Having given it plenty of thought she now feels that she is giving her children a far better start in the life than the religious one she had.
She told the Holly Randall Unfiltered podcast that her and her children freely talk about sex, consent, bodies and what’s right and not.
“[We have] All kinds of conversations and equipping them with tools that I was never equipped with as a kid growing up,” she said.
“It is now so important to me now as a mum to teach my kids these things so they have these skills for a life time, for dating, relationships, for their working environment for who they become, whatever they end up doing these are life skills everyone needs.
“I would say my work has prepared me and helped me with that better than anything else in my life.”

The national leader of All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the country.

Tinubu gave the advice in a statement in Lagos.

“Let us remember President Muhammadu Buhari and his government in our prayers so that they may be given the strength and wisdom to protect the nation, defeat the challenges that confront us, and help establish Nigeria as a more prosperous and just land,” said Mr Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State.

“Let us pray for our brave soldiers and security agents confronting insurgents and bandits.

“We must keep in close remembrance, those whose lives have been lost to or impaired by terrorism as well as those who have been lost to or harmed by the global pandemic – COVID-19.

“May we see an end to this disease and its consequences in no distant time,” Tinubu said.

He urged Muslims to be better and treat one another with greater compassion and understanding as Ramadan fast ends.

He also advised Muslims and other Nigerians to build a better society that would free from violence and hatred.

Conor McGregor beats Messi, Ronaldo to be named Highest-Paid Athlete

It seems like a lifetime ago that a fresh-faced, tattoo-less Conor McGregor burst onto the scene with a knockout-of-the-night performance in his UFC debut.

Now, eight years on, the wild Irishman is making a lot more than $60,000 in a night’s work.

Former UFC dual-division champion McGregor has just been named as the highest paid athlete on the planet.

The 32-year-old is now at the summit of Forbes’ prestigious list, surpassing the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James.

According to the figures crunched by Forbes, McGregor pocketed a whopping US$180million in 2020 despite only stepping foot inside the octagon once.

While it’s understood the majority of his earnings came from his multi-million-dollar business ventures away from fighting, McGregor did still make an impressive $22million for his fight against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

The rest?

Well, that came from his highly-popular Proper No.12 whiskey company which made a reported $158million.

You can only begin to imagine where McGregor will place on next year’s rich list after he recently sold his majority stake in the business to well-known tequila company Jose Cuervo for around $600million.

Just behind the UFC fan favourite is football megastar Lionel Messi, whose ‘leaked’ Barcelona contract indicates he’ll probably catapult up the rankings next year.

Cristiano Ronaldo takes up third spot having made a cushty $120million – just $10million less than Messi.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott comes in at fourth spot with $108million thanks to his mega-money NFL deal.

And taking up the last spot inside the top 5 is NBA legend LeBron James who took home $97million.

They’re followed by Neymar, Roger Federer, Lewis Hamilton, Tom Brady and Kevin Durant.

Nigeria won’t break up, says TB Joshua

Prophet TB Joshua has released the video of a prophecy for Nigeria which he gave almost seven years ago on July 27, 2014.

In the video, the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) general overseer predicted that Nigeria would be covered by a cloud of “crisis, murder, killings, destruction”, but would not break up.

“Nothing will happen to Nigeria. Nigeria will remain one,” Joshua assured the congregation during a service at SCOAN.

The video’s release comes amid sustained calls for Nigeria’s breakup by both the proponents of a Biafran government and other aggrieved persons and organisations, following worsening terrorism, kidnapping and banditry.

“Beyond this crisis, Nigeria is beautiful. Your prayer now is that you should witness it so that this crisis will not take you away,” the cleric declared.

“It is decreed that this nation will be reckoned with as a powerful nation,” he continued, adding that his prophecy would become a point of reference many years later.

However, he warned members of the ‘political class’ of impending repercussions for their contributions to the crisis.

“Huge trouble is coming and no human being will withstand it unless you don’t have hand in that trouble,” he boldly declared.

“There is a cloud that covers Nigeria… the cloud of crisis, murder, killings, destruction covers Nigeria. The cloud will go; Nigeria will remain.”

Joshua then questioned the rationale of those who are “interested in power that cannot give them peace”.

Moment terrified man left dangling 330ft above ground as glass bridge shatters

A man found himself gripping on to the side of a bridge for his life as the walkway beneath his feet gave way above a 330ft drop.

The walkway, located in the Piyan Mountain in the city of Longjing, China, was blown to pieces in howling 90 mile per hour winds.

The structure was built with glass panels stretching across the length of the walkway, giving pedestrians a heart-stopping view of the scenes below.

However, the glass panels flew off the bridge in high winds while a man was halfway across the crossing – with the male tourist then requiring rescue from emergency services.

The Straits Times reports: “Under the joint rescue efforts of firefighters, police, and forestry and tourism personnel, the male tourist successfully crawled to safety at 1.20pm.

“He has been taken to a hospital and is receiving psychological counselling.”

An image of the man in peril quickly circulated across Chinese social media site Sina Weibo over the weekend, drawing attention and commentary.

One wrote: “This is basically one of my anxiety dreams played out in the real world.

Another posted: “This is terrifying.”

And another asked: “How often did the bridge undergo maintenance?”

The bridge is now closed to all pedestrians while it undergoes repairs, while the resort where the bridge is constructed has also been temporarily closed following the incident.

God won’t forgive Buhari if Nigeria goes to war — Gani Adams

Adams on Sunday accused Buhari of of being insensitive to Nigerians’ plight over the country’s insecurity crisis.

Adams had his 51st birthday Thanksgiving programme at the Saviour Ministries Cherubim and Seraphim Church Worldwide, Alausa, Lagos State, on Sunday.

He said the agitations for Nigeria’s disintegration was due to the Federal Government’s inability to address the country’s challenges.

He said Buhari has been lacklustre in tackling the security challenges in the country.

“Schools are being shut, churches, mosques are not spared. Bandits are gradually leading the country into a tailspin and the president seems to have been bereft of ideas.

“What we experience daily now in Nigeria is enough to set the country on fire. A section of the country lording itself over other sections.

“Yet they said we shouldn’t talk, that our calls for the O’odua Republic was done in bad faith. How can you explain the killings, kidnappings and banditry spreading in North, East, West and South?

“One of the greatest problems of this government is nepotism. One begins to wonder why Mr. president is insensitive to the plights of others, especially to the sorrow and agony of citizens losing loved ones to bloodshed.

“It is a wake-up call for President Buhari to address all these issues in the interest of this country; else God will not forgive him if Nigeria disintegrates through war.”

Ghanaian Doctor allegedly poisons colleague’s water with HIV-infected blood

The Korle Bu Police, Ghana are investigating a case involving the contamination of a medical doctor’s drinking water with HIV-infected blood by another colleague.

The act is suspected to have been carried out by another doctor following a disagreement between the two.

Both doctors (names withheld) work at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

Checks by Graphic Online at the Korle Bu District Police Command indicated that at about 11:30 a.m. on May 6, 2021, a medical doctor, accompanied by the lawyer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Mr Kwame Gyamfi, filed a complaint at the charge office of the police station regarding an attempt to poison the doctor’s drinking water.

The medical doctor told the police that he was on a 24-hour duty with six other doctors at the Labour Ward One of the hospital.

At the end of the 24-hour shift, the medical doctor allegedly returned to his consulting room and detected that his drinking water which he kept in a water bottle in the room was contaminated.

Suspicion

The doctor suspected that his water had been contaminated after he found a reddish substance which appeared like blood in the water.

Based on the doctor’s suspicion, the water in the bottle was clinically tested and it was found that the substance was blood.

HIV test

When the blood was later tested, it came out positive for HIV.

The medical doctor told the police that he suspected one of his colleagues and gave his name to the police.

He claimed that the two of them had some disagreement while they were on duty at the labour ward.

When the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mrs Effia Tenge, was contacted by Graphic Online, she confirmed that the Korle Bu Police had received such information and that it was under investigation.

I didn’t mock Adeboye over son’s death – Sunday Igboho makes shocking u-turn [watch video]

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has explained that he never mocked the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over the demise of his son, Dare.

Igboho stirred the hornets’ nest when he rained curses on any leader or cleric who refuses to support the secession agenda, saying God will kill their children and wives.

Igboho’s aide, Olayomi Koiki, in the video had asked him (Igboho) to commiserate with Adeboye over the death of his son, Pastor Dare Adeboye.

But the visibly infuriated Igboho asked if the man of God had declared his support for the Yoruba nation.

He said: “Has Baba supported the Yoruba nation that we will now be greeting him? We don’t need to greet Adeboye. What is my own with that? We are not doing church here. This is not religion.

“Adeboye has never spoken about the Yoruba issue. Look at how huge his congregation is, why hasn’t he spoken for the Yoruba Nation? We don’t need to commiserate with him.

“God himself will judge those who have not supported us, may He continue to kill their wives and children since they don’t want us to reach our promised land.”

But Igboho in another viral video has backtracked saying he never insulted Adeboye but was referring to elders who were sabotaging the efforts of Yoruba Nation.

He said: “May we not experience untimely death, I did not insult Baba, or speak ill of him or the dead. If you look at the video, you’ll see that it was not related to him.

“I only placed curses on all elders who have powers and can help Yoruba nation but have refused to help the struggle.

“I was referring to the elders, why will you have power? Influence? and you can see how we are suffering and being killed, you are supposed to pity and help us.

“God knows when we’ll all leave this world, he owns us, we’ll all die someday. I did not mock the Adeboye family over their son’s demise.

“May God forgive us all, and grant Baba Adeboye long life. I did not abuse him. I only placed a curse on those who are sabotaging the efforts of the Yoruba Nation.

“I don’t know Baba Adeboye physically, and he does not know me too, I did not mock him.

“Baba must have watched the video, and he’ll know I did not abuse him. In the last video, I only said we shouldn’t mix religion with our struggle.

“Please I want to implore all Yorubas not to create confusion over the current struggle. He is a pastor, I’m a Christian, So how can I be abusing a cleric? I did not abuse or mock him. Let people desist from spreading such information.”

Belinda Effah explains why she changed her name

Nollywood actress, Belinda Effah, has revealed that she will now be officially addressed as Grace-Charis Bassey. The actress recently announced this development on her Instagram page.

Speaking at a press conference which held on the set of “Nollywood Queens” reality show, Effah disclosed that she changed her name from Belinda Effah to Grace-Charis Bassey.

According to the actress, her divine encounter with God prompted the name change.

Her words; “I had to change my name and the only thing that can make me change my name will be the most supreme being which is God.

A lot of people will not understand that. So I don’t bother to explain to people when they ask me why. On the 15th of August last year. I had a divine encounter with God to change my name to Grace. Nobody changed my name, God did.”

“A couple of years ago, I wanted to change my name when I found out that I could not really grasp the meaning of my name. Some people said it meant ‘beauty’ some other people said it meant ‘beautiful serpent’.

So I was caught in between not knowing what the right meaning is and I wasn’t quite comfortable with that. Also, Belinda was not the name my parents gave to me.

My birth name is Uyu.” “I came across Belinda in secondary school, when my brother came up with the idea of changing my name and my sisters’ names because we were all bearing native names. He came up with different names and asked us to pick.

Funny enough, I picked Melinda but I didn’t like the name because people started calling me Mirinda in school. So I decided to just go on with Belinda because they could not twist it to something funny like Mirinda. I didn’t check the meaning, I was just carried away because it sounded cool and funky.”

The Calabar, Cross River State-born beauty, said she went soul-searching after feeling stuck in life “Having fully grown and matured, getting to discover myself I started asking a lot of questions about my life’s purpose.

I got to a point in life where I felt stuck, nothing seemed to make sense to me anymore, not money, not people, not material things. I had to turn to my creator and asked him, what is your purpose for me in this life?”

“Before then, on my own I wanted to change my name but when I thought about it, and made research about name change, it was too complicated. You have to change your whole identity, you have to do the paperworks, of course I’m a brand, people know me as Belinda Effah.

I actually changed it three years ago but not on papers. It was too tedious so I gave it up.” Continuing, she said “So after my encounter with God, I called my parents and told them not to call me Belinda anymore.

The interesting part is that my mom said she named me Grace at birth. She said she had a friend named Grace who went through all the trouble with her during my delivery and she decided to honor her friend by naming me after her.

But you know mothers really have little control over the naming of the children, the fathers do. So my father decided that I bear Uyu and it was final.”

“Here I am standing as an actress, as a brand and whatever people know me for, to announce to the world that I’m changing my name after over 30 years. People have questioned me as to why will I be so mad to change my name.

I’m like if God says move, I jump. I don’t care, if God gave it to me who am I to say no?” “I’m not here to fulfill man’s purpose because man’s purpose is limited. I’m here to fulfill God’s divine purpose and since he has asked me to change my name, I have changed my name.

A lot of people will not understand but I don’t really care because I have gotten to the point where nothing really matters anymore. I have come to the realization that I want to be happy in life and my ultimate happiness is from God, and I only need directions from him, I don’t need man’s directions.

I have an opportunity now to do things differently. It may not attract a large number of people because it’s not hip, it’s not flashy and all of that, but in the long run I have a foundation and that’s what matters to me.”

“We hear on social media everyday that one person or the other has passed on and they didn’t go with the wealth they have amassed, they didn’t go with their acting career, they went with nothing. So why would I hold on to this because it gives me wealth, credibility, class and things that really don’t make sense.”

We won’t reply Sunday Igboho, CAN says on attack on Adeboye, other Pastors

The Christian Association of Nigeria has said that no Christian leader in the country has kept quiet over the situation of Nigeria.

CAN noted that it had no comment for popular Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, more commonly called Sunday Igboho, who insinuated that some elders in Yoruba land did not support the agitations for secession and establishment of the Yoruba nation.

Pastor Bayo Oladeji, the Special Adviser to the CAN President, Rev Supo Ayokunle, stated this in an interview with SaharaReporters.

When asked for his opinion about Igboho’s comment, Pastor Oladeji said, “I am sorry. No comment. If that is how you all see it, let it be. If CAN has been keeping quiet over the happenings in the country, if that is how you see it, too bad. We are not ready to reply Sunday Igboho.”

Igboho in the interview did not mince words when he hurled curses at leaders or pastors who refuse to support the secession agenda, saying God would kill their children and wives.

He said this during a live Facebook broadcast with his media aide, Olayomi Koiki, on Saturday night.

Koiki had asked the activist to send some words to Adeboye through the live video, to sympathise with him over the death of his son.

But, Sunday Igboho appeared infuriated by Koiki’s request as he asked if the man of God had declared his support for Yoruba nation.

The Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock Church Lagos, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, yesterday Sunday, May 9th, during a church service advised his members to leave the country.

The Pastor used himself as an example and told his congregation that he was already getting a plan B to leave Nigeria.

Pastor Adefarasin called on all leaders not to be partisan at this time.

”No country in the world history has survived two civil wars. You could be in fright and running for your dear life anyday from now if this thing does not come to an end. My personal encouragement to leaders and government on all sides is that it is not time to be partisan, blend the aisles. It is time to sit down and dialogue.”

Speaking further to his members, he said;

”I bring you greetings from Pastor Ifeanyi who is busy taking care of the frontier of our world and preparing our escape root. If you don’t have a plan B. …I know you have faith, but I have faith too but I have a plan B.

With technology I can speak to you from anywhere in the world.

Get yourself a plan B. Wether that’s an Okada to Cameroon or flying boat or speed boat as we call them to Seme Border or a holein the ground, get your plan B because these people are crazy. They ate nutters. The whole bunch of them. And watch the signs because it can happen like this. God forbid!”

Former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar debunks link with bandits, other terrorists group

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has debunked alleged link with armed bandits or any other terrorists group wreaking havoc in communities across Niger State.

Abubakar in a press statement issued in Minna by his media aide, Dr. Yakubu Suleiman described the allegations as “false and unfounded.”

A section of the media had linked him to a purported arrested helicopter supplying food and weapon to bandits in parts of the State.

But dissociating himself from it, he said ordinarily, he would have ignored the report but had to set the record straight.

“This kind of fake news has the potential of aggravating the already tense security situation in the country and should not be condoned”, he said, adding that it is “a heinous crime that is unbecoming of any patriotic citizen.’

Gen. Abubakar said he wondered how individuals can be so callous to peddle such news and smear the image and character of people.

He urged Nigerians “to ignore such treacherous acts and be careful with the kind of information they dish out and share on social media”.

The elder statesman then urged Nigerians to continue to work and pray for enduring peace in Nigeria, saying that no nation can attain greatness without peace and security of lives and property.

Bill Gates hiding out at luxe billionaires’ golf club in California

Bill Gates has been hiding from the fallout from his divorce at an ultra-exclusive California golf club for a number of months, according to a source.

An insider said the 65-year-old billionaire Microsoft founder has been holed up at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells, which bills itself as “one of the United States’ most prestigious and ultra-exclusive private country club communities,” a veritable 712-acre oasis of wealth.

A source exclusively told Page Six, “Bill clearly saw this divorce coming for a long time because he’s been there for around three months.”

Bill was this week spotted at The Vintage Club with his 25-year-old daughter Jennifer Gates and her fiancé, Egyptian millionaire Nayel Nassar, according to the Page Six spy.

Gates owns a private home on the property, which also boasts members such as billionaires Charles Koch, Philip Anshultz and Dennis Washington.

It costs $250,000 to join and home prices there range from a mere $2.3 million to $20 million. It has an 85,000-square-foot clubhouse at the epicenter, a host of restaurants, and a luxury spa, and two nationally ranked, 18-hole, Tom Fazio-designed golf courses.

The Microsoft mogul reportedly spent $12.5 million on a massive home in the posh resort community in 1990. The 13,573-square-foot home has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms and sits along a pristinely manicured golf course.
