Atiku, father, grandpa not Nigerians, Kyari tells tribunal

Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar in the February 23 general election was a Cameroonian “flesh and blood’’.

Kyari, who was led through his deposition by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, counsel for the president, insisted that Jada, the hometown of the former vice president was in Adamawa Province, an enclave that belonged to Northern Cameroon in 1946 when he (Atiku) was born.

He explained that Atiku was already born in 1946 before the plebiscite was conducted in 1961 to divide Nigeria and Cameroon when Jada which was part of Northern Cameroon voted to become Nigerian territory.

Kyari further said that the plebiscite also resulted in the Southern part of Cameroon officially aligning to becoming Cameroonian territory.

The witness, therefore, said the French system of assimilation had compelled people of Jada, including Abubakar’s father and grandfather to be full Cameroonians in “flesh and blood’’.

WAEC official disowns Buhari’s Cambridge credentials

A West African Examination Council official, Osidehinde Adewunmi, on Wednesday, disowned the Cambridge University’s Moderated International Examination credentials produced by President Muhammadu Buhari and tendered as exhibits before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.

The two documents earlier admitted as Exhibits 19 and 21 were Buhari’s statement of results and the broadsheet for the results of the 18 candidates who sat for the examinations in 1961.

The Deputy Registrar, School Examinations in Nigeria, of WAEC, who appeared before the tribunal on a subpoena, testified before the five-man tribunal led by Justice Mohammed Garba, as Buhari’s fourth defence witness on Wednesday.

He appeared in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging Buhari’s victory at the February 23, 2019 poll.

Part of the grounds of the petition was that Buhari lacked the educational qualification to contest the election.

When cross-examined by the counsel for the All Progressives Congress, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Adewunmi said he, as a WAEC official, certified one of the documents bearing the name of the University of Cambridge Moderated Examination earlier tendered as Exhibit marked R21.

The witness, who said he had been working with WAEC for about 30 years, told the tribunal that the examination was conducted by Cambridge University in conjunction with WAEC.

He confirmed that 18 persons sat for the examinations in 1961, adding that Buhari was listed as number two on the list of candidates for the examination.

He confirmed that Buhari sat for eight subjects and had five credits in the examination – Oral English, C5; History, A3; Geography, C6; Hausa, C5; and Health Science, C6.

“He came out with aggregate of 32 and he was awarded Grade 2,” he confirmed.

When asked, he confirmed that “whoever has this (the R21 exhibit) has secondary education”.

Under cross-examination by the petitioners’ lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Adewunmi was asked if Exhibit R19 was a certificate, he said, “I cannot say whether it is a certificate because my signature is not on the certificate. It is not bearing my name or the name of my organisation”.

Asked again, the witness said, “This document is bearing the name of Cambridge University Assessment International Education”.

Asked if the document was issued by WAEC, he said,  “It is not a document from the West Africa Examination Council”.

Asked about Exhibit R21, he said, “This is the foundation, the primary foundation for issuance of a certificate.”

The witness was also asked if the document was a certificate.

“This is not a certificate,” the witness answered.

When asked, he also said, “I have never worked with the University of Cambridge”.

He described him as a "superb athlete" and a "beautiful boy" who had delivered a 15-minute speech at his brother's 21st birthday party just moments before he died.

"There is no mystery, there were no drugs," Peter Hamlyn said.

"He was swimming in his swimming trunks, almost sober. He had just spoken for 15 minutes without notes.

South Korean doomsday cult leader jailed for six years

The leader of a South Korean doomsday cult has been sentenced to six years in jail for holding her followers captive in Fiji and subjecting them to violence.

Shin Ok-ju, who founded the Grace Road Church, convinced 400 people to move to Fiji in 2014, claiming they would be safe from imminent natural disaster

Once there, their passports were taken away and many of them reported being beaten to "drive out evil spirits".

Shin was arrested last July. On Monday, a South Korean court found Shin guilty on several criminal charges including violence, child abuse and fraud.

"The victims suffered helplessly from collective beatings and experienced not only physical torture but also severe fear and considerable mental shock," said a sub-court of the Suwon District Court.

"Heavy punishment is inevitable against illegal acts carried out in the name of religion," it said.

Five other church officials were also sentenced. There has been no comment from the church.

Heart-stopping moment neighbours use blankets to catch a three-year-old boy after he fell from a six-storey flat

A young boy in south-west China has miraculously survived a six-storey fall thanks to his quick-thinking neighbours.

The three-year-old boy was filmed desperately clinging onto a balcony of a high-rise building in Chongqing city's Jiulongpo district on Monday afternoon. Horrified residents quickly grabbed two large blankets and placed it below him.

Nail-biting footage shows the moment the boy loses his grip and falls. Fortunately, the blankets caught the falling child and he was unhurt.

The boy had been left alone at home and woke up from a nap to find his grandmother missing, according to Shangyou News. She had went out to get groceries.

In a bid to look for his grandmother, the boy had climbed on top of a sink on his balcony and tumbled over the glass railing, leaving him clinging on for dear life.

Video filmed by neighbour Mr Liu shows the child kicking his legs and desperately trying to pull himself up.

He was kicking and trying to climb up. He managed to lift himself a little bit but then slid back down again,' Mr Liu said.

A security guard of the residential district told video news site Pear that the child had been holding on for nearly four minutes before letting go.

Luckily, the boy had fallen right in the middle of the blankets and was unharmed.

The grandmother carried the boy home and his parents later took him to hospital.

Probe Nasiru Jibril over illegal transfers now, Real Sapphire football academy tells Amaju Pinnick

The sport director of Real Sapphire football academy Mr Francis Ogete has called out Amaju Pinnick to probe the activities of the TMS Manager who is in charge of the International Transfer Certificate (ICT)

Ogete insisted that it is common knowledge for us to know that a player with Nigerian football history and passport can’t play football internationally without passing through the NFF.

We took five players to Egypt to secure Latvia visas for them in a bid to honour our pre-contract agreement with FK Ventspils and this players were hijacked in Egypt by Zane Abdulhammid who is an Egyptian scout.

In a situation like this who do we call to help us? Is the NFF not responsible for Nigerian players? This players have played for the academy in the FA cup and that implies that the NFF have their names as they were cleared to play for Real Sapphire in the FA Cup.

Let me use this medium to remind Nasiru that when this issue started we heard that one of the players, Kazeem Balemo has started playing for a club in Egypt.

“I called Nasiru instantly and he confirmed to me that the Chairman of Nnewi FC was the one that begged him to issue ITC for the player. We threatened to fight but Nasiru pleaded and asked the Nnewi FC chairman to plead to. The ITC was reversed immediately by Nasiru who called the Egyptian federation to cancel the move and it was done. Has I talk to you now Kazeem is somewhere in Ibadan and out of football for not honouring his contract with Real Sapphire.

The story of the other four players has been different as three of them now play professionally in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Pinnick should ask Nasiru how this players were cleared? If the hand of Nasiru is clean then the NFF should call any Football Federation involved to order.

Are we saying the NFF shouldn’t care for academies and their players?

We will not relent on this issue, the only answer Nasiru has given us is to go to fifa which he knows that such move will cost several millions of naira.

We won’t be intimidated, we will fight this course to the end and we are calling on Amaju Pinnick to use his good office to resolve this matter immediately as issues like this only helps to promote injustice and continuous defacing of the NFF.

Meghan has persuaded major British retailers Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Jigsaw - along with her designer friend, Mischa Nonoo - to create a ‘capsule’ collection of women’s workwear which will benefit Smart Works, a charity helping women back into the workplace.

Each time a piece is bought from one of the retailers, a ‘like for like’ item will be donated to the charity.

Biodun Okeowo admits acting does not pay her bills

Nollywood actress, Biodun Okeowo has admitted acting does not pay her bills. Biodun made the revelation while advising upcoming actresses on her instagram page admitting acting never pays most of their bills, but their businesses do. Her's what the mo of two teens noted down for them;

''Many times I have been asked if acting is what pays my bills, I'm here to tell you the truth!! It is not.

The money most of us collect is not enough to foot all our bills, especially those of us with huge responsibilities, reason some of us started paying attention to businesses years ago. That is why someone like me have done less movies and focused more on businesses that is more profitable.

Acting will give you name, recognition, often more access and in some cases very supportive fans. My advice is as you come into this industry or continue in this job, have a legitimate side business, build quality relationships, become a serious minded business woman and expect less from any man.

I have had people talk about men making women in the industry rich and I wonder what man can make you rich and help you sustain wealth like a business will do.

So my advice again, focus on yourself building legitimate businesses, all the rest will just be an addition. If you are lucky to meet a man who adds more to your wealth, all well and good, please grab it with both hands. There's nothing wrong with addition, ogun subtraction ni ka ma ri (may we not encounter subtraction IJN)...''

1. Olukemi lost an election for a seat in the London Assembly but was later selected after two other members gave up their seats in 2012.

2. A jack of all trades, Olukemi worked as a systems analyst before pursuing a career in consultancy and financial services, working as an associate director of private bank and wealth manager Coutts and later a director at the conservative magazine The Spectator.
She was also previously a school governor at St Thomas the Apostle College in Southwark and the Jubilee Primary School.

Mothers gunned down in Chicago during a peaceful gun violence protest

Two mothers in Chicago have been killed in a drive-by shooting as they stood on a street corner in an effort to deter gun violence.

Chantell Grant and Andrea Stoudemire were volunteers for Mothers Against Senseless Killings and had been camped out at the corner to prevent conflict.

They were shot on Friday evening by the occupants of a blue SUV. No arrests have yet been made.

Supporters say they are shocked by the killing and will honour their memories.

"It is sacred ground, as far as we're concerned," said Mothers Against Senseless Killings (Mask) member Maria Pike, referring to the South Side Chicago street corner policed by the fallen mums.

"This was a haven that was built by moms," she told ABC 7 in Chicago. "The lack of humanity is shocking," she added.

Grant was a 26-year-old mother of four and Stoudemire was a 35-year-old mother of three.

"It is terrifying. It is heartbreaking. I haven't slept because I am trying to figure out how we can stop this," Tamar Manasseh, founder of Mask, told the Chicago Sun-Times.

"Who's next? I just keep thinking, Who's next?"

Estranged wife of Dubai ruler seek marriage protection order in UK court

The estranged wife of the ruler of Dubai - one of the most high-profile leaders in the Middle East has asked for a forced marriage protection order in a UK court.

Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum's wife, Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein, is the third female member of his court to apparently try to run away.

This month she was reported to be in hiding in London and is said to be in fear for her life.

The case began in London on Tuesday.

Princess Haya asked for wardship of her children - with whom she left the United Arab Emirates (UAE) - as well as a forced marriage protection order and a non-molestation order.

Sheikh Mohammed meanwhile applied for the return of his children to Dubai, and also applied for the court to impose reporting restrictions on details about the orders - a request the judge rejected.

Sir Andrew McFarlane ruled there was "a public interest in the public understanding, in very broad terms, proceedings that are before the court".

The princess, who was born in Jordan and educated at private schools in Britain, is an Olympic equestrian and the half-sister of the current Jordanian ruler, King Abdullah II.

She married Sheikh Mohammed in 2004, becoming his sixth and "junior" wife. The 70-year-old sheikh, who is the billionaire owner of Godolphin horse racing stables, reportedly has 23 children by different wives.

Body of founder of India's largest coffee chain , Cafe Coffee Day, found near a river

The body of the founder and owner of India's largest coffee chain, Cafe Coffee Day, has been found near a river on the outskirts of the southern city of Mangalore, police say.

VG Siddhartha went missing on Monday after apparently walking away from his car and driver.

On Tuesday, police said a body had been found by fishermen on the river.

The identity was confirmed by members of Mr Siddhartha's family after the body was taken to hospital.

Mr Siddhartha's company, Coffee Day Enterprises Limited, held an emergency board meeting on Monday to discuss his absence. In a statement, it appealed for "the support and strength of all our stakeholders".

In a note to the stock exchange it said the company was "professionally managed and led by a competent business team" which would ensure the "continuity" of business.

“Yes, we have received the report of suicide in Konsisha,” she simply said.

The 59-year-old coffee tycoon, who has been described in local media as "soft spoken" and "self-effacing", was not fond of the limelight.

He was born to a family of coffee plantation owners, but his first company was an investment firm. He used the profits from it to enter the coffee business.

After family dispute, Man commits suicide in Benue

A middle-aged man, identified as Kula Adasu, was on Tuesday found hanging from a tree in Tse Agabaragba, headquarters of the Konsisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident was said to have thrown his family into mourning.

The deceased, who was married and had children, was said to have left no suicide note that would have revealed the reason for his action.

Sources close to the family told Punch that the extended family members had accused the deceased of being responsible for the death of one Master Terseer Adasu.

A source said, “The matter became dicey when the family held a meeting and insisted that they would consult a soothsayer today (Tuesday) to identify the person responsible for the young man’s death.

“Perhaps, out of fear of being exposed, the deceased might have decided to commit suicide.”

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident when contacted.

“Yes, we have received the report of suicide in Konsisha,” she simply said.

Photo: Ibadan Poly student goes missing after exams

Four weeks after a student of the Department of Computer Science, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Damilola Bada, went missing, members of his family are anxious about his whereabouts.

It was gathered that the National Diploma 2 student went missing few days after he finished his examinations.

According to Damilola’s brother, Timilehin, the 20-year-old was last heard from on July 4 when a member of the family called to inquire when he would come home.

Speaking with Punch Metro, Timilehin, who noted that Damilola’s friends do not know his whereabouts, said the family’s effort to find him had so far proved abortive.

He said, “Damilola finished his exams on July 1 and on July 4, we called him to ask when he would be coming home and he said the following day, but since then, we have not been able to ascertain his whereabouts.

“When he was with us at Ijebu Ode, he used to disappear like that but then we could still contact him and know his whereabouts; but this time, we don’t even have the means of contacting him. We, however, got to know that he had disagreement with some people regarding money and his twin brother had to travel to Ibadan.

“The twin brother left there on July 5 after Damilola told him that he had some things in Ibadan and since then, we have not heard anything from him. Although when something like this happened in the past, we used to contact his twin brother and he would tell us what was going on, but this time, he does not even know his whereabouts.”

Speaking on efforts of the family to find Damilola, the 27-year-old Timilehin told a Punch correspondent that the family visited the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ibadan to see if he was arrested, but the officers told them that no arrest was made, adding that fliers had been printed and pasted in strategic places so that anybody with useful information on him could inform the police.

Punch correspondent learnt that the matter was reported at the Apete Police Station in Ibadan.

When contacted, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officers, Olugbenga Fadeyi, stated that the command had no record of the incident.

Police clear Canada border service officers in Nigeria's Bolanle Alo's death

Police say Canada Border Services Agency officers are not to blame for the death of a Nigerian man during his deportation last year.

The passenger on a Calgary-Amsterdam flight had an altercation with two CBSA officers before takeoff on Aug. 7.

The plane returned to the gate and police responded to find Bolanle Alo in medical distress.

The 49-year-old was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say an investigation found the death was not caused by the border service officers, who were acting in a reasonable and appropriate manner.

The chief medical examiner also determined Alo died of natural causes.

Alo’s relatives have demanded information in the case.

Their lawyer, Elias Munshya, has said they want to know what happened when Alo was detained, what happened in detention and what happened on the airplane before he died.

Documents from the Immigration and Refugee Board said Alo, whose first name is listed as Bolante, came to Canada in 2005 and made a refugee claim on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

He was, however, denied at every stage and ordered removed from Canada in February 2018.

The documents said he had been co-operative with the CBSA but didn’t want to return to Nigeria.

“Mr. Alo is adamant that he will face harm if he is returned to Nigeria and has consistently told officers that he will not return to Nigeria on his own and that he would only return if he is forced to,” stated the documents.

Charges of r*pe & assault dropped against Neymar

Just like Cristiano Ronaldo, PSG attacker Neymar has been exonerated of all charges of r*pe and assault following accusations made earlier this summer by Najila de Souza.

Prosecutors of the Special Action Group to Combat Domestic Violence (GEVID) concluded that there was insufficient evidence against the footballer to bring the case forward to an indictment.

According to reports, Brazilian prosecutors failed to obtain security camera footage of the hotel in which the alleged incident occurred in Paris and private medical records relating to the accuser.

The impact of the accident on Tochukwu, who was at the bus stop waiting to board a vehicle home, was said to have made Chimbusomma to fall off her back. She reportedly hit her head on the pavement as a result.

While Tochukwu sustained injuries from the accident, Punch Metro learnt that her daughter’s skull broke and she died on the spot on Wednesday, June 9, 2019, a day to her first birthday.

Jeffrey Epstein is hit with a lawsuit from accuser who claims he r-ped her when she was 15

Jeffrey Epstein was hit with a lawsuit from a woman who claims he r-ped her when she was just 15 years old the day before the accused pedophile was found injured in his cell from an apparent suicide attempt.

The billionaire was given documents filed in Jennifer Araoz's lawsuit against him on July 23 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center where he is being held on charges of s-x trafficking and conspiracy.

The following day, Epstein was found semi-conscious in his cell with marks on his neck.

The specifics of Araoz's suit have not been disclosed, but the now-32-year-old previously accused Epstein of r-ping her in 2002.

Araoz said she was an aspiring actress when she met the billionaire after a 'recruiter' targeted her at her Manhattan high school and lured her to his house.

For the next year, Epstein allegedly manipulated Araoz into giving him massages that ended with him masturbating while he showered her with gifts and cash.

The illicit contact ended after Epstein 'forcibly r-ped' her, according to Araoz. She was 15 at the time.

Araoz claims she dropped out of school to avoid Epstein and her life quickly deteriorated. She is now seeking damages for her emotional injuries.

Woman's cheeky message for couple who woke her up while having s3x right in front of her home

People oooo, lol. Families in Plymstock certainly weren't happy when they were roused from their slumber at 4:30am last night - not to the sound of birds chirping, but to a man and a woman practising what they'd learnt about 'the birds and the bees'.

Plymouth Live reports that residents and their pets were woken in the early hours to the sounds of a couple having a "good time" outside their homes.

This news comes courtesy of a Facebook group called Plymouth Gossip girls, in which a woman shared a hilarious message for the "rude" pair.

She revealed their antics and urged the unknown duo to have a little more consideration for people sleeping "next time".

She wrote: "0430 this morning, I was rudely woken by a man and woman having s3x outside my house!

"They were very noisy about it, (even woke my dog from a deep sleep), she, a lot more than him, and the neighbours & I all know she had a 'good time'...twice."

The disgruntled home owner continued: "Anyway, if you were that woman (& I have a good description if you need reminding) please keep the noise down next time you think about having s3x in a residential street.

"For some context on the noise, the room I was in is at least 10 metres from where they were and there's a tree and bushes in between and I still heard everything!"

But while they may have ruined her sleep, it seems like she might have gotten the last laugh.

She added: "I also had great delight in lighting up my driveway and popping out to ask if they were finishing anytime soon so I could get back to sleep."

Gunmen abduct Ex-NULGE chairman in Edo state

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a former Edo Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akoko-Edo branch, Alhaji Jimoh Olumoye.

It was gathered that Olumoye was abducted along Igarra-Okpe Road on Sunday afternoon while driving in his car to pick his children from the farm.

The children of the victim were said to have raised the alarm when they saw their father’s car with the doors opened and his phones abandoned.

A family source who craved anonymity, said the family had lodged a formal complaint at the Igarra Police Station.

The source said: “His children had gone to the farm early in the morning and he promised to go and pick them in the afternoon before he would attend his family meeting.

“The children waited endlessly for their father and when they did not see him, decided to trek. On their way home, they met his car on the road with the four doors opened and his mobile phone abandoned. After searching for their father fruitlessly, they decided to come home to inform the family.

“We have been praying for his safety, we are worried because he is a civil servant who also farms to augment whatever he is earning as a civil servant. We are appealing that his abductors release him unhurt. He has an aged mother and everybody is scared of breaking the news to her, we are really worried.”

It was gathered that several vigilance groups in Igarra, Ojah, Ogugu and environs in Akoko-Edo local government area and their counterparts in Owan East have been mobilized to comb the forests around the area.

Must see! Horrifying moment Komodo dragon eats a live monkey whole in just six gulps

Teary, lol! The moment a Komodo dragon devours a giant monkey whole has been caught in a clip.

The 10ft Indonesian lizard - widely believed to have a venomous bite - can be seen guzzling down the live primate from head to feet in just six gulps.

The footage opens with the ape already halfway down the Komodo's gullet.

It is thrown further down its throat until the unfortunate animal's feet fully disappear from view.

The monkey's tail is the last to be swallowed. The Komodo dragon - native to the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores and Gili Motang - is one of the world's most fearsome predators, normally feasting on pigs, deer and snakes.

The beasts can run up to 15 miles per hour, and have been known to devour prey nearly 80 per cent of their own size. INCREDIBLE!
