Alan Hawe's body lay beside those of his victims' for 250 days - but now the remains of Clodagh Hawe and her three children will rest in peace without the monster by their side.
Hawe was placed in the same grave as his family despite him leaving a note at the scene of the murders that said he wanted to be cremated and his ashes spread at sea.
Tragically those instructions were not shared with Clodagh’s mum Mary Coll, and sister JacquelineConnolly, until after the funeral, reports the Irish Mirror.
But now the instructions have been carried out and Hawe's grave was opened at 5.40am and hauled out of the ground by a team of undertakers.
It was then cleaned off and placed into a private ambulance at Saint Mary's Church in Castlerahan, Co Cavan, Ireland.
The van then took a 60-mile journey to the Glasnevin Crematorium. Hawe's ashes were then transported to his family home in Kilkenny.
The 41-year-old had a joint funeral with Clodagh, 31, and their children Liam, 13, Niall, 11, and Ryan, six, after he stabbed them all in their house in rural Ireland.
The devoted mum and her children were found in the home by local police who had been called by Clodagh’s mother after she discovered a note pinned by their killer on the door of the house.
Hawe, a leading light in the Church, murdered his family using knives, a hatchet and his bare hands in a sustained and systematic attack before he hanged himself last August.
Clodagh, a teacher was researching family holidays on the computer while her husband was gathering weapons from around the house and garage on Sunday, August 29.
Hawe then launched his sickening murder-spree, attacking Clodagh.
She fought for her life but at barely eight stone, she was powerless against her attacker’s weight, strength and determination.
Hawe then killed the couple's three children one-by-one.
