The octogenarian was arraigned before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi on one count of unlawful sexual intercourse, which he pleaded not guilty to.
According to Simon Imhonum, the police prosecutor, Omobolaji, 82, committed the offence on September 25 on Amosu Street, Obadore, Igando, Lagos.
The charge read in part, “That you Ayoade Omobolaji, on September 25, 2017, on Amosu Street, Obadore, Igando, Lagos, did forcefully and unlawfully defile one girl, aged 13, by having sexual intercourse with her, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Osunsanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must work in a reputable organisation, own property within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of tax payment within the last three years, all of which must be verified.
Omobolaji would remain in custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the matter till November 21 for trial.
