A brand-new Lamborghini was wrecked in a motorway smash just 20 minutes after leaving the dealership.

The £215,000 Hurucan Performante was rear-ended by a van after coming to a stop in lane three of the M1 near Leeds, Yorkshire.

The crash took place at 1pm yesterday on the southbound carriageway between Junction 40 at Flushdyke and Junction 39 at Durkar.

A police spokesperson claimed the van driver was left with non-serious head injuries after ploughing into the back of the supercar.

West Yorkshire Police traffic cop Richard Whitely tweeted a picture of the totalled sports car.

He wrote: "It’s only a car! But on this occasion a 20-minute-old brand new Lamborghini that stopped due mechanical failure in lane three, then hit from behind [by a vehicle] #couldhavecried"

The crash caused major delays on the southbound carriageway, before the roads were reopened at 2.15pm.

Last year car nuts watched on in horror as a Huracan smashed into a wall in London.

Footage showed the silver sports car speeding down the road, before seeming to lose control and spinning onto the pavement.

One spectator, who runs Instagram account London.Carspots, claimed: “He was revving and decided to do a launch control, at which point he lost control because of his cold tyres.

“He hit the tree, went up the kerb and hit the wall – I’m pretty sure he was crying when he got out. It was easily a write-off.

“Loads of people stopped to take pictures after it happened and the recovery van turned up an hour later.”

Scoot Supercars added the motorist had to dodge oncoming traffic and that the tree “saved him from flipping”.
