Barack Obama has shared a touching tribute on Instagram after Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing.

The former US president, 59, shared a poignant post about the late actor who passed away aged 43 after a four-year battle with cancer.

The Black Panther star had been diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and secretly battled the disease.

But sadly he lost his battle, and now Barack has shared some thoughtful words as the world continues to mourn Chadwick's passing.

Sharing two snaps of the pair at the White House a few years ago, Barack penned: "Chadwick came to the White House to work with kids when he was playing Jackie Robinson."

He added: "You could tell right away that he was blessed. To be young, gifted, and Black; to use that power to give them heroes to look up to; to do it all while in pain – what a use of his years."

News of the actor's tragic death was confirmed in a statement posted on  Instagram  late on Friday in the US, which read: "It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman."
