Eddie Murphy is celebrating a career milestone after winning his first ever Emmy for his Saturday Night Live cameo last year.

The Nutty Professor star scooped the Creative Arts Emmy Award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for hosting the sketch show in December 2019.

Although the awards aired virtually on Saturday night, Eddie, 59, was unable to accept his award.

It’s been a long game for the acclaimed comedian, who has been nominated three times for his work on SNL since 1983. These nods include outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series and outstanding writing for a variety series.

Eddie’s grand return to the SNL stage last year was a historic moment as it was the first time he had hosted the NBC sketch show in 35 years.

During the episode, the Coming To America actor used his monologue to speak about how he’s transformed into a family man.

‘I actually have 10 kids now. 11 if you count Kevin Hart,’ he joked.

‘I love Kevin Hart so much but my kids are my whole life now.’

However he caused a stir when he added: ‘And if you would have told me 30 years ago that I would be this boring stay-at-home father of 10 house dad, and Bill Cosby would be in prison, I would have took that bet. “Who is America’s dad now?”’

The gag appeared to be referencing his 1987 stand-up film Eddie Murphy Raw where he revealed that Cosby ‘chastised’ him for his sweary jokes and slammed him as a father.

During the bit, Eddie opened the floor to fellow comedians Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and Dave Chappelle, who all made gags about how they were inspired by Eddie’s career as they joined him on-stage.

During the final night of the Creative Arts Emmys, Bridesmaids actress Maya Rudolph won outstanding guest actress in a comedy for playing Senator Kamala Harris in the same episode hosted by Eddie.
