Toor! INEC Releases General Elections Dates For The Next 36 Years

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday announced dates for general elections in the country for the next 36 years, starting from 2019 to 2055, Punch reports.

Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mamood Yakubu, made the announcement at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja.

“In 2019, the dates are February 16 and March 2; in 2023, the dates are February 18 and March 4.

“In 2027, the dates are February 20 and March 6; in 2031, it is February 15 and March 1.


“In 2035, it is February 17 and March 3; in 2039, it is February 19 and March 5 and in 2043, it will hold on February 21 and March 7.

“In 2047, it is February 15 and March 2; in 2051, it is February 18 and March 1; in 2055, it is February 20 and March 6,” Yakubu said.

Customs Arrests Three Fake Job Syndicates

The Calabar Free Trade Zone in Cross River and Akwa Ibom Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested three suspected job syndicates.

The Customs Area Controller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone and Akwa Ibom Area Command, Mrs. Patience Burromvyat, said the suspects were arrested this month in Calabar.

She said the suspects were nabbed for issuing fake Customs recruitment letters to the public and swindling them.

Burromvyat added that the arrest was made possible through a tip-off by the public and surveillance by officers.


“Their method of operation involves opening a fake website on which they advertise recruitment purportedly by NCS to attract job seekers who are duped.

“I take this opportunity to advise the public, especially job seekers, to beware of Internet fraudsters who ask for money to give jobs.

“Recruitment into the Nigerian Customs Service will be advertised in the media at the appropriate time by the headquarters,’’ she said.

The controller said the suspects would be arraigned after investigation, to act as a deterrent to others.

Boy Freezes To Death After Sleepwalking In Snow

A Russian boy aged four has tragically died after sleepwalking out of his village house into savage -20C cold in the middle of the night.

He wore only thin pyjamas, and his grief-stricken mother Maria, 27, found his lifeless body after following his tiny footprints in the deep snow when she woke at 6am.

The Siberian child, called Bogdan, had set out towards a neighbour’s house.

He had gone sleepwalking before, but in summer when the temperatures in Krasnoyarsk region are warm.


Maria woke at 6am and could not find her boy in the house.

She discovered he had unlatched the door and gone out into the severe cold with nothing on his feet, and no hat.

She followed his tiny sleepwalking footprints and soon saw his frozen body.

The Russian authorities have launched an investigation into his sad death.

The boy lived in the village of Yaga in the Uzhursky district of Krasnoyarsk region.

Judge Issues Default Judgment Against Akon

Akon's learning the hard way that giving the cold shoulder never pays, especially when it comes to lawsuits, cause now he's gotta cough up tons of dough.

Akon's been ordered to pay $164,786.99 to a company that leased him some space on the 66th floor of the Empire State Building for his fashion line, Aliaune Milano, this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

The leasing company, GTFM, said Akon agreed in July of 2012 to pay $25k per month and did so until July of 2015 when he stopped paying rent. GTFM claims Akon's company finally left in January of 2016, owing almost 7 months of rent.

GTFM had sued Akon, but the singer never responded to the lawsuit, so the judge issued a default judgment. Sigh!

Man Accuses Wife Of Being Pregnant Two Months After Welcoming Their Son

A 33-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Uche Duru, has threatened to dump his wife, Rita Nwolu, for being pregnant while still nursing their two months’ old baby.

Duru also accused his wife of running away from home to join a baby factory, adding that she was attempting to sell the two-month-old baby to one Mrs. Ngozi Egeonu for N300,000.

He alleged that Egeonu was running a baby factory and had rented an apartment for Nwoli so as to co-opt her into her baby factory.

 “I have been looking for my wife since December. I never knew that she had already sold my baby to a woman for N300,000. I also learnt that she is two months’ pregnant; how can my wife who was delivered of a baby two months ago be pregnant?


“I am not the owner of that pregnancy because I did not sleep with her. I have not seen her for the past two months and it is the police that discovered that she went to sell my baby. I will leave her if she fails to tell me where the pregnancy came from,” Duru added.

Thanking the police for recovering his baby, Duru explained that though he and Nwolu had been living together, he had not finished paying her bride price.

But the wife, who looked worn-out, disagreed with Duru, insisting that her husband impregnated her, even while she was still nursing her two-month-old baby.

“My husband is the owner of the pregnancy. He impregnated me. After I gave birth to the baby, my husband would smoke Indian hemp and forcefully sleep with me.

“It continued to happen like that until I noticed that I was pregnant. Each time I refused to have sex with him, he would use a cutlass to threaten me,” she said.

She denied selling the baby, explaining that since there was nobody to take care of her, she decided to hand over the baby to a Egeonu,  who promised to take care of the baby.

When confronted, Egeonu denied running a baby factory, explaining that what she ran was an orphanage in Owerri, Imo State.

She also denied buying Nwolu’s baby, but claimed that the N300,000 she offered the nursing mother, was to take care of the infant and her other children.

However, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Rivers State, Mr. Cyril Okoro, said men of the IGP Monitoring Unit, on February 16, 2018, arrested Nkechi Uzoemene, Roseline Okey and Nwolu, who allegedly conspired to sell a two-month-old baby boy without the consent of Nwolu’s husband.

Okoro said, “The suspects were said to have conspired amongst themselves and sold a two-month-old baby boy belonging to Rita Nwolu for the sum of N300,000, albeit without the consent of her husband, Uche Duru.

“The child was sold to Ngozi Egeonu in Owerri, Imo State. However, on the execution of a search in the house and premises of the buyer, operatives recovered nine pregnant young women, whose pregnancies have been mortgaged.

“Further investigation led to the recovery of the two-month-old baby boy at No. 24, Egbelu Street, Rumudara in Port Harcourt, where the duo of Ugo Amarachi (female) and Benjamin Amuobichukwu were arrested.”

Okoro explained that all the suspects had since confessed to being complicit in the alleged offence and would be charged to court soon.

I Almost Committed Suicide In 2017- Owen Gee

One of the biggest mistakes one can make is to think that a comedian is the happiest person on earth. The way he makes other people to laugh and forget their sorrows, at least temporarily, will tempt one to think that there is no yoke upon his soul.

But Lagos-based humour merchant, Owen Gee, will not encourage anyone to harbour this thought for long. His  personal story is instructive enough in this regard. Here is a comedian who contemplated suicide in 2017 when he was pushed to the wall by thorny circumstances.


“I have had suicidal tendencies,” he said. “Last year, I tried several things, but they did not work out. It was not because the ideas were bad, but the people I was working with just didn’t let them work out. Then anxiety and depression set in.

“It was then I realised that no drug could calm depression. There was hardly anyone I didn’t take. There was a time I was sleeping on drugs. There was a particular yellow tablet that, if I took it on Tuesday, on Wednesday I would only be prompted to barely wake up, eat and go back to sleep even before I finished eating. I would not wake up until Thursday.”

Owen Gee narrated the experience on Sunday during the unveiling of Live and not Die, an initiative aimed at stemming the tide of suicide in the country. With Kunle Pelemo as the convener, the programme held in Lagos encouraged several professionals to share their experiences  while experts proffered solutions to depression.

According to Pelemo, suicide is so rampant that the World Health Organisation affirmed that it is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. WHO, he added, noted that about a million people committed suicide annually. Pelemo thus believes that it is important to take a conscious and sustained effort to tackle the menace.

Man Allegedly Shoots Brother To Death

A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, remanded 33-year-old Musa Shu’aibu in prison, for allegedly shooting his brother, Adamu Shu’aibu to death.

Musa, who lives at Jigawar Alhaji Ado village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government area of Kano State, is facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and culpable homicide.

The Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, ordered the remand of the accused till March 29.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Anthony Edward, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 30 at about 10 p.m. in Dawakin Kudu local government area of the state.


“The accused conspired with nine of his friends, who are now at large, while armed with a gun, shot his brother to death,” the prosecutor told the court.

Edward said two locally made revolvers and one pistol were recovered from the accused.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 97 and 221 of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act, 2004.

Musa, however, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Kaduna Crisis, Death Toll Rises To 12

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, said on Tuesday 18 suspects have been arrested and 12 people confirmed dead in the three- hour crisis that engulfed Kasuwan Magani town, Kajuru local government area of the state on Monday.

Addressing journalists after a fact- finding and assessment visit to the area, the police commissioner vowed that no stone would be left unturned in unraveling the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.

Iwar, who was at the village alongside other top security chiefs including the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major Gen. Mohammed Mohammed and the state Commandant of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Modu Goni, expressed shock at the scales of destruction.


He said: “It is us fortunate. As we can see the level of destruction is very high. Some people were killed and properties destroyed. This is not what we wished for our state, Kaduna.

“Let me say that we will not leave any stone unturned in investigating the remote and the immediate causes of this problem. We will talk to the stakeholders here and try to find out what is the problem and through civil problem solving approach and conflict resolution, we will deal with that. We will also look at the criminal aspect of it.

“So far, we have arrested 18 people that we suspect were involved in the crisis. We are working round the clock to ensure that we get to the root of the matter. We have recovered a number of dangerous items, including petrol bombs. We believe this is a planned thing and we will get to the root of the matter. We will do a thorough investigation to ensure that it does not happen again.”

Student Attacks Classmate For Revealing HIV Status

A 17-year-old girl from Kakamega county facing charges of assault and causing grievous harm has told the court the victim pushed her to action through continuous mockery over her HIV status.

The girl who is a form one student at a school in Likuyani Sub-County is accused of attacking and hurting her 14-year-old classmate on February 5, 2018 before disappearing.

Charge details indicate the minor waylaid her classmate at around 5.00am on the material day, slapped her severally before taking a machete hidden within her skirt and slashing the victim on both feet, right hand and on the head.

The victim who was present in court when her assailant was charged is reported to have bled profusely and got unconscious following the attack as the attacker disappeared into the bushes only to be arrested in Nakuru last week.

“Your honour I accept that I committed the offense as stated in the charge sheet but I would like the court to consider my position. The girl I attacked was telling other students that I am HIV positive leading to discrimination and mockery,” she said.

She narrated to the court that the complainant was her close friend and confidant since primary school and knew so much about her, and felt that it was utter betrayal for her to tell other classmates.

“It is true that I am HIV positive, I was born with the infection and having built trust with my friend I shared the information but sadly she used it against me. My desk mate had borrowed me a razorblade to sharpen her pencil when she intercepted and told her to stop sharing sharp objects with me because I could infect her,” she added.

The complainant who was accompanied with her mother acknowledged that they were friends but remained silent on the allegation of publicizing her friend’s health status thus exposing her to stigma.

The mother of the complainant however intervened and described the accused as a wayward child that had even dropped out of secondary school a few days after admission.

“The girl is my neighbour and has been disturbing her mother that is why no one from their family has come to court, she bore a child while in primary school and has been giving the mother a difficult time. She even told my daughter that she wanted to inflict injuries on the school’s head teacher,” the mother said.

The accused minor rebutted the allegations saying that she only stopped attending school after her friend made her HIV status public to school mates.

“I was determined to study but the mockery that followed the publicizing of my HIV status discouraged me. It was out of anger and a feel of betrayal that I attacked her,” said the girl who claimed to have been born in 1999.

Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa however criticized the accused person’s actions despite her mitigation, questioning what she would have expected the court to do in case the victim would have succumbed to the deep cuts.

“I did not want to kill her that is why I cut her in the legs and hands and not the head. I just wanted to let her know that she had grossly offended me but I am remorseful I acted out of anger,” said the girl.

The prosecutor Edgar Mulamula had questioned the age of the girl who did not have a birth certificate to prove she was a minor, saying if she was born in January or February she qualifies to be an adult and should not be tried as minor.

Mr Obulutsa directed the girl to be taken for age assessment and remanded at Eldoret Juvenile Remand waiting ahead of the production of a probation report on March 12 when the case will be mentioned.

Youth Leader Threatens To Sue Buhari If He Refuses To Run In 2019

The President, Nigeria Youth Organisation(NYO), Abdullahi Wali, says he will sue President Muhammadu Buhari if he refuses to contest in the 2019 presidential election.

Wali, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Abuja, said he was reacting to a statement credited to Buhari during a meeting with APC governors. 

He said that the president was quoted as saying that he needed time to decide whether he would run or not.

Wali said President Buhari should run in 2019 in order to consolidate the achievements he had recorded so far.


“If Buhari decides not to run in 2019, the achievements recorded by his administration will vanish as the vampires of our common treasury will resurrect and loot everything living the masses with nothing.

“Therefore, he needs to solidify his achievement before handing over to hopefully a youth.

“NYO agenda is to build Nigerian youths to actively participate in leadership for national unity and development and will therefore not sit and watch the solid foundation made by this administration for the benefit of Nigerian youths sink.

“ I have directed my lawyers to sue the president if he refuses to run and will also mobilise millions of youths under my leadership to stage the highest rally ever in Nigeria until the president accepts to run,’’ he said.

Wali said that he would be glad to beg the president for the privilege of purchasing a nomination form for him if he decided to run in 2019.

Hosea Ibi, a member of Taraba State House of Assembly and Mr. Chidiebere who was later released after a ransom was paid.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col Ogunsanya said, “The suspects are Jaka Ejukun (24years), Peter Isaga (33years) and Arachukwu Bedforth (21years).

In a followed up investigation, a raid operation was conducted on Sunday 25 February 2018 by the combined team of own troops and Department of State Services in Gbise, Kastina Ala LGA where more arrests were made.


“During the operation the following suspects were arrested at various locations. “They are Isaiah Suwe (23 years) a Tiv by tribe from Lessel Ushongo LGA of Benue State, Amadu Barnarbas Torva (aka Atamanin) (23 years) from Gbise Kastina Ala LGA of Benue State, Aondi Teroo (21 years), Nengenen Mbaawuaga Damian (22 years), Aondoase Kayitor (18 years) and Ternenge Tersoo (19 years).

“Consequently, a total of 9 persons have been arrested in the kidnapping and murdering of Hon. Hosea Ibi.

One of the suspects Amadu Barnabas Torva, participated actively in kidnapping and murdering of Hon. Hosea Ibi. Items recovered from him include, 3 Glo sim cards, 3 MTN sim cards, 2 Etisalat sim cards, 1 Airtel sim card, One Gionee Android phone, 3 Techno dual sim phones and his voter’s card.

Other items include, 1 First Bank ATM cards without name on it with number 5061051125350935375, 1 vigilante identity card with Taraba State Command belonging to one Mr Moses Yaro suspected to be a previous victim of the gang and flash drive.

Suspects are presently in custody undergoing Department of State Service interrogation.

Yusuf Buhari Returns To Country After Further Treatment Overseas

President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son, Mr. Yusuf Buhari, who was involved in a ghastly motorbike accident last December, returned to the country Monday after undergoing further treatment overseas, ThisDay claims.

Although it could not be ascertained where Yusuf had gone for treatment, ThisDay gathered that Yusuf, who arrived the country Monday night, was in a better shape and is expected to resume a normal life.

At the time of his accident, a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, had said Yusuf was allegedly drag racing with his friend, when the accident happened on December 26.


According to the statement, “Yusuf broke a limb and sustained an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.”

He had first undergone successful emergency surgery at the Cedarcrest Hospitals, Abuja, carried out by a team of neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons.
As Yusuf’s health improved, he was transferred from the intensive care unit of the hospital to the ward, following which he was certified stable and discharged.

But sources in the presidency disclosed Monday that shortly after he was discharged from Cedarcrest, he departed the country quietly due to the sensitivity surrounding his treatment abroad.

When contacted Monday on his return, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Mr. Femi Adesina, declined to comment on the issue.

Adesina, who sounded irritable, said: “The boy has a right to his private life. We can’t be talking about him and his movement.”

Chinese Lady Rides Bicycle From Morocco To Lagos

A Chinese female cyclist, Huang Shuang, who rode from Morocco to Lagos, Nigeria, within five months, says she is convinced that anybody can achieve anything he or she determines to do.

Huang, also known as CICI, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that she was inspired to embark on ‘`cycling around the world’’ after riding around her country.

The cyclist said that her experience in China motivated her to begin global cycling in America where she covered about 5,500 km in two months.


“I am glad that I have also been able to ride from Morocco to Lagos, Nigeria.

“ This is an indication that irrespective of our sex, we can achieve anything we set out to do.

“The whole idea about my cycling started when, one day, I decided to embark on a cycling trip around my country, China.

“After the trip around China, I was motivated to take my first cycling around the world to America, where I covered about 5,500km in two months.

“Now, I am in Lagos from Morocco, after I flew from America to France, where I cycled around Europe for four months, before taking ferry from Spain to Morocco,’’ she said.

Huang said that she always travelled with money, noodles, tent, sleeping bag, clothes and bicycle repair accessories.

The cyclist, who left Morocco for Lagos on Sept. 6, 2017, said that her trip was fascinating though she experienced tiredness, robbery, accidents and sleeping under bridges and in gas stations.

Huang told NAN that she crossed the desert within six days and was well received by many African villages.

The cyclist said that, sometimes, she happily ate local meals made by the villagers.

‘`I have happily sung and danced with children in different African villages and communities where I passed the nights or stopped to cook.

“I have seen the most beautiful sunset, the most stunning mountain views, breath-taking lakes and virgin forests across Africa.

‘`My trip has also exposed me to many African children still living in poverty, hunger, without education and basic amenities,’’ she said.

The Chinese said that she would be cycling to about 33 countries in the next three years, adding that she would continue her cycling from Lagos to Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, East Africa and some other countries.

Huang said that her cycling was also informed by her desire to interact with children in African communities before inaugurating a free lunch for them in 2018.

Scandal: Weinstein Company To File For Bankruptcy

The Weinstein Company has been left with 'no choice' but to file for bankruptcy following the alleged Hollywood sex scandal surrounding film producer Harvey Weinstein.

According to reports, last-ditch efforts to sell the company have ended in failure.

A statement from the board said on Monday: "While we recognise that this is an extremely unfortunate outcome for our employees, our creditors and any victims, the Board has no choice but to purse its only viable option to maximise the Company's remaining value: an orderly bankruptcy process.

"Over the coming days, the Company will prepare its bankruptcy filing with the goal of achieving maximum value in court he.was fired from the company last October with allegations that he had sexually harassed and abused women employed by the studio.

Head of the company, Weinstein's brother Robert, is accused of failing to prevent the mistreatment of staff, along with other senior executives.

The news comes just days after Weinstein apologised to Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence for citing their
names in an attempt to get a class action lawsuit against him dismissed.

Jennifer hit back at the disgraced producer, calling him a "predator" after Weinstein's lawyers used favourable quotes about him from the Hollywood stars.

German Prosecutors Won't Open Investigation On Mark Zuckerberg Over 'Hate Speech & Sedition'

German prosecutors have said they would not open a formal investigation of Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook managers in connection with a complaint alleging the company broke national laws against hate speech and sedition.

German attorney Chan-jo Jun had filed a complaint with prosecutors in Munich in 2016 and demanded Facebook executives be compelled to comply with anti-hate speech laws by deleting racist or violent postings from its site.

Jun compiled a list of about 440 postings that were flagged as inappropriate but not deleted over a period of a year. His complaint named Facebook founder and chief executive Zuckerberg and nine other managers, including Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.


Germany has some of the world’s toughest laws covering defamation, public incitement to commit crimes and threats of violence, with prison sentences for Holocaust denial or inciting hatred against minorities. But few online cases are prosecuted.

The Munich prosecutors’ office said in a statement that, while the posting of certain content on Facebook might breach German law, the failure to delete those posts was not a crime.

A new German law that could impose fines of up to 50 million euros ($61.5 million) on sites that failed to remove hate speech promptly did not change the situation, it said, as that law did not mean executives committed a crime when their company failed to delete posts.

“If the individual Facebook users committed crimes in these 442 cases, then the appropriate investigations will be initiated,” it said.

A man has sent his wife and his 10-year old daughter out f his house, saying it's her fault that she has been unable to bore him a son and brought in a new wife. According to the woman, he sent them out in the middle of the night and she has been sleeping in front of a bank at Anthony bus stop. She wants to relocate back to her state, Imo State but presently have no money or even a place to live in Imo State.

TEARS SEEING MOTHER AND CHILD SLEEP IN FRONT OF BANK IN LAGOS.

Arrived Lagos State this morning at 2:07am and surprise to see a woman and her 10yr old daughter sleeping in front of a Bank.

I observed them from afar, came closer to avoid waking a mad woman. I woke them up and ask to know why they were sleeping in such a place.

she opened up and told me she has been sleeping there for two nights.

“Trouble started when my husband brought in a new wife because i couldn’t have a male child. Last week Saturday at about 1:00am, he woke me and my Daughter (Amara), told us to leave his house in presence of his new wife. I didn’t utter any word, no fight, he helped me parked my things out and that of my daughter. My luggage was much so I left some at the Security Post. I had nowhere to go at that ungodly hour except traveling back to Imo State but have no transport and even where to stay in Imo State”. (Story Cut)

Macron, Wife To Visit Trump (US) In April

The United States President, Donald Trump will host French President Emmanuel Macron for a state visit on April 24, the White House has said.

“The president and first lady will welcome President and Mrs. Macron of France to the White House on April 24,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters.

“This visit will advance American and French cooperation on economic and global issues and deepen the friendship between the two countries.” Sanders said it would be the first official state visit since Trump took office.

The French presidency also said in a brief statement that Macron’s visit would take place on April 23-25 and include a joint news conference, several official ceremonies as well as a state dinner.

South Korean Prosecutors Want Ex-Female President Jailed 30 Years As Case Gets Hotter In Court

South Korean prosecutors on Tuesday sought a 30-year jail term for former President Park Geun-hye who was ousted last year amid an influence-peddling scandal as supporters braved the winter cold outside the Seoul court demanding her immediate release.

Park, 66, was dismissed in March after being impeached and is standing trial on charges of bribery, abuse of power and coercion in a case that rocked the country’s business and political elite. She denies wrongdoing.

The prosecution’s recommendation came two weeks after Choi Soon-sil, a longtime friend of Park who was at the center of the scandal, was jailed for 20 years for taking bribes from “chaebol”, or conglomerates, including electronics powerhouse Samsung and retail giant Lotte.


Prosecutors are also seeking a 118.5 billion won ($127.1 million) fine for Park, who has been detained since March 31 last year.

Park Seung-gil, a lawyer representing the former president, tearfully pleaded before Seoul Central District Court for mercy, saying Park had tried her hardest in leading the country “day and night”.

Park’s trial began in May and a verdict is expected before April in a case that brought scrutiny to the cosy ties between South Korea’s political leaders and its largest chaebol, the so-called “Republic of Samsung”.

“(Park) brought a national crisis by letting a person who has never been involved in state management rule the country,” a prosecutor said.

“She and Choi took tens of billions of won in bribes and yet denied her crimes and obstructed efforts to establish the truth.”

Receiving bribes carries a penalty of up to life in jail.

Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the court, proclaiming Park’s innocence.

“Immediately release our president,” they chanted.

The Liberty Korea Party, a conservative opposition party formerly led by Park, condemned the call for jail.

“What the prosecution is demanding is harsher than the death penalty,” the party said in a statement.

Seoul Central District Court had also sentenced Shin Dong-bin, chairman of the country’s fifth-largest conglomerate, Lotte Group, to two years and six months in prison in the same case.

Earthquake Takes 14 Lives In New Guinea, Even More

Up to 14 people were killed in landslides and by collapsed buildings during a powerful earthquake in the remote Papua New Guinea highlands, police and a hospital worker said this morning, with unconfirmed reports of up to 30 people killed.

The 7.5 magnitude quake that rocked the region early on Monday also damaged mining and power infrastructure and led ExxonMobil Corp to shut its $19 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, the country’s biggest export earner.

Two building collapses and a landslide killed 12 people in Mendi, the provincial capital of the Southern Highlands, said Julie Sakol, a nurse at Mendi General Hospital, where their bodies were brought to the morgue.


“People are afraid. The shaking is still continuing. There’s nowhere to go but people are just moving around,” she said.

Dozens of aftershocks rattled the area, including a 5.7 quake, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Police in Mendi said 14 people were killed in the initial quake, including three in Poroma, south of Mendi.

“They were killed by landslides destroying families sleeping in their houses,” said Naring Bongi, a police officer in Mendi.

Two Stowaways Die After Falling Off NY-Bound Plane

Two stowaways died after falling off a New York-bound plane that recently took off from an airport in Ecuador early Monday.

The victims fell from the plane’s landing gear after taking off from José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport at 9 a.m. in Guayaquil.

Police removed the bodies from the airport’s runway. Flights were delayed for over an hour.

Authorities didn’t identify the two victims but said they either possibly fainted or were thrown off the plane. The flight originated from Peru and made a stop in Ecuador before heading to the United States.

Bill Cosby Loses 44-Year Old Daughter

The daughter of Bill Cosby, Ensa Cosby is dead. She passed away on Friday night at the age of 44.
TMZ reports that Ensa Cosby died in Massachusetts, where the family has a large estate.

A spokesperson for her father, Andrew Wyatt, announced on Monday afternoon that her death was caused by renal disease, with Ensa having suffered from kidney problems throughout her life.

Her passing comes one month before her father is set to be retried on rape charges in Pennsylvania this April.

This is the second child Cosby has lost, with son Ennis having been murdered in 1997 during a botched carjacking in Los Angeles. Ensa is survived by her parents Bill and Camille, her siblings Erika, Erinn and Evin and her husband Martin McLean.

Sridevi Kapoor's Cause Of Death Confirmed As 'Accidental Drowning'

Legendary Bollywood star Sridevi Kapoor's cause of death has been confirmed as 'accidental drowning', according to an official investigation.

The actress, who was 54 when she died on Saturday night, had traces of alcohol in her blood, the forensic report found.

Dubai Police released the report to Sridevi's family and a representative of the Indian Consulate this morning.

Her family confirmed the sad news of her death over the weekend.


Recall the veteran actress and her family were in the United Arab Emirates for a wedding before her sudden death. She is believed to have been with her husband, producer Boney Kapoor, and daughter Khushi when she died.

Sources told Gulf News, Sridevi was under the influence of alcohol when she lost balance and fell into the bathtub at Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel, Dubai.

A British man may be one of the most heavily tattooed in the world after covering his entire body - and even impregnating his eyeballs - with jet black ink.

Eli Ink, 27, is a tattoo artist from Brighton who views his body as a canvas to exhibit his finest work on.

Over 10 years he has tattooed almost every centimetre of his skin in layers of black ink and he has even put ink in his eyeballs.

Huge stretchers were implanted in his nose and lower lip to stretch them into unusual shapes as part of his body modification.

He said his tattoos and modifications are both seriously planned and sporadic, which he says is a reflection of his own personality.

Now that his whole body is tattooed black, he says he can add designs to that dark canvas as he comes ever closer to reflecting a surrealist figure from a Picasso painting - the famous painter being one of his greatest artistic inspirations.

And despite his appearance which some may view as extreme - and possibly unsettling - he is still a hit with the ladies and he is in a relationship with girlfriend Holly, another body-modification enthusiast.

Eli was first drawn to tattoos as a child when his uncle came home from a holiday in Spain with a large tribal tattoo on his arm.

I Killed My Wife Because She Was Sleeping Around, Bricklayer Tells Police

A bricklayer, Akinyemi Edgar Koja , who had been on the run after allegedly strangling his wife , Ajoke, to death in their apartment in Agemowo area of Badagry, last December, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos.

Vanguard learned that he was picked in an undisclosed area around Lagos Island, where he took refuge since the incident occurred.

However, during interrogation, the suspect stated that he carried out the act out of jealously, following what he described as his late wife’s adulterous acts.


Recall that after allegedly killing his 28-year-old wife who was a graduate, he dumped her corpse inside a well within his area, before taking to his heels.

It was gathered that there had been a lingering quarrel between the couple until the unexpected occurred.

In a move to arrest the fleeing husband, the Lagos State Police Command declared him wanted .

Police sources hinted that he was traced to his hideout through his telephone calls.

Sources further hinted that the suspect contacted some of his relatives to plead with his in-laws on his behalf, so that the matter could be settled amicably.

Report had it that Ajoke’s murder could not have been unconnected with her intention to travel out of the country.

But the suspect alleged during interrogation at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department , SCIID that his late wife was having an extra marital affair.

How she was killed

Explaining how she was killed , the suspect said: “ I strangled her at night while she was sleeping. She was sleeping around with other men because she felt I am a poor man and she did not hide it. That fateful night, I suffocated her with pillows . When I discovered she was dead, I dumped the body inside a well close to our apartment . I ran away to make it look like I was not around when the incident happened. “

The suspect was Tuesday charged before Magistrate’s Court 12, Ebute Meta, for murder, from where he was remanded in prison custody by the Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin Williams, with the case adjourned to March 28 for hearing.

Boxer Dies Shortly After Victory Match

Ring legend Ricky Hatton led the tributes after professional boxer Scott Westgarth died following his fight on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old light-heavyweight was taken ill after returning backstage following his points victory over Dec Spelman at Doncaster Dome.

At different points in the fight, which was at times brutal, both men were knocked down to the canvas.

Westgarth, after being announced as the winner, completed his post-fight interviews before stumbling to the back, where paramedics were called to his aid and he was taken to hospital.


The show, which was supposed to feature a headline fight featuring former footballer Curtis Woodhouse, was cancelled when news of Westgarth's struggles came to light.
