A Lagos-based businessman, one Obiwanne has been accused of complicity in the controversial death of his wife, Chidinma. Chidinma’s family urged the relevant authorities to step into the matter by investigating the death of their daughter.

The deceased until her controversial death on November 9, 2017, lived with her husband at Satellite Town, Lagos.

Chidinma, 34, who hailed from Aboji village in Oba, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State, according to a petition forwarded by her family to the police and Lagos State Advocacy Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, died in a controversial circumstance late last year.

She allegedly died in a trailer accident while riding on a commercial motorcycle popularly called okada, running errand for her husband.

According to Chidinma’s brother, Ekene Agina, Obiwanne popularly called ObiGold said both the motorcycle operator and the trailer driver bolted from the scene unhurt.

Ekene said Obiwanne claimed he had deposited the body at the mortuary and that he would send it to Oba the following day.

In a petition dated February 9, 2018 and signed on behalf of the family by Ekene, he accused Obiwanne of withholding the truth about circumstances surrounding his sister’s death.

Ekene, who lives in Satellite Town near Festac, Lagos, alleged that Obiwanne, who is also residing at Satellite Town, did not break the news of his sister to him, but instead phoned his younger brother, Uchenna, based in Oba community in Anambra State.

He said his sister’s body was sent to a private mortuary in Oba, Anambra State while Obiwanne was also planning to bury his sister without her family’s consent.

The petition read in part: ” I asked him (Obiwanne) why he did not call me before sending the corpse home. I asked him if the okada man and the trailer driver were dead or alive, but he did not answer me.”

Ekene said he was told that the body had been sent to his brother in the village.

On enquiry, Ekene said he was told by his brother, Uchenna, that his sister’s body was rejected at the first mortuary here it was taken as some parts were suspected to have been cut-off for unknown reasons.

He said Obiwanne did not report the incident to the police, until their bereaved family raised issues over the circumstances surrounding his sister’s death, three weeks after.

Ekene said Obiwanne who was initially arrested has since been released from the custody of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).

Contacted, Obiwanne initially declined comments before hanging up on The Nation correspondent.

He however responded to a text message forwarded to his phone number saying: ‘’Did the person alleging also inform you that an autopsy was performed on the body? If he did, then the report (of the autopsy) should be what you should be concerned with as a professional journalist as you introduced yourself to.
