The Lagos State Police Command said on Wednesday that 26 armed robbery suspects were arrested across the state in the last one week.

The state Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

He said the suspects were apprehended at Ejigbo, Abule-Egba and Yaba areas of the state, adding that their arrests were possible because of existing partnerships with communities.

Edgal said one Ifeanyi Eze and Innocent Nwabugo were arrested at Ejigbo, adding that N48,000 and a mobile phone were recovered from them.

He said police operatives arrested three “one-chance” operators that used a Vanagon Bus marked LND463XU and painted in Lagos State commercial transport colour at Awori Bus Stop in Abule-Egba.

Identifying the suspects as Emmanuel Eno, Samson Adigun and Timothy Ekpo, the police commissioner said the vehicle, two number plates, three phones, one hand chain and four wristwatches were recovered from them.

He said raiders attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba, arrested two suspected car thieves, Emeka Eze and Okwudili Emmanuel, who stole a Honda Accord Saloon car marked LND192CA.

He said the raiders acted on a tip-off and caught up with the suspects along ECOWAS Route on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway while attempting to sell the car.

Edgal said: “When the car was searched, one CAC ID Card bearing Akinkunmi Olutunbi with telephone number 08025770333 was found inside.

“The owner was contacted through the mobile number and he identified himself as the owner of the car, saying it was snatched from him at gunpoint along Third Mainland Bridge inward Makoko, Yaba.

“The suspects confessed during interrogation that they snatched the car and other vehicles. Investigation is on to recover other stolen vehicles.”
