The two women, who were born conjoined from the navel below, were rushed to hospital six months ago due to heart-related issues.
They shared organs including their liver and lungs, however had two separate hearts. On Saturday, the pair died in hospital in Tanzania after failing to recover.
Tanzanian President John Magufuli said on social media that he was ‘saddened’ by their deaths. He added that Consolata and Maria had ‘dreamed of serving the nation’.
The women were raised by Catholic charity Maria Consolata, who adopted and named them after their parents died when they were young.
Last year, they told the BBC that they wanted to become teachers after finishing their university course. Really sad.
