The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) says it will commence an indefinite strike on Friday due to government’s failure to meet its demands.

The union had given the state government a 21-day ultimatum to meet its demand or face an industrial action.

A communique signed by Pius Oaikhena Okhueleigbe and Moni Mike Modesty Itua, the chairman and the acting secretary of the union, read: “The union magnanimously gave another seven-day extension period to the government to meet our demand which ended 13th of September.

And failure to meet the demand, Edo state public school teachers will commence an indefinite strike action with effect from Friday 14th, the statement stated.

The teachers’ demands include the financial implementation of the 2013 to 2015 primary school teachers promotions as approved by the government with the arrears of last January to July inclusive as well as teachers deliberated omitted or denied  promotions by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
