The suspect was said to have secretly given a locally-made insecticide popularly known as ‘ota piapia’ to the baby of her co-wife, Rukaiya Kabiru, to drink.
It was learnt that the incident happened on September 9, 2018.
Northern City News gathered that before the incident, Zulac and Rukaiya had been having a disagreement which they found difficult to resolve.
It was learnt that their husband, Kabiru Labbo, alerted the police operatives in Bangi Division to the development, prompting the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect told Punch correspondent that since her husband married her co-wife, there had been trouble in the family on a daily basis.
She said, “I warned my husband against marrying another wife, but he didn’t listen. The second wife was in the habit of insulting and assaulting me at all times and one day I decided to poison her eight-month-old daughter to increase her sorrow; so that she will learn how to respect her superiors in the family.
“Before my husband married her, I kicked against the move. We have been living in peace but when she came, she divided the family. My husband gave her more attention and since then our family has been in shambles.”
Asked if she felt any remorse for her action, Zulac said, “It was the work of the devil; I didn’t know when I did it, it was a wicked act,” she said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect had confessed to the crime and regretted her action, adding that she would be arraigned in court after full investigation.
