A luxury shoe company has been criticised online after releasing a pair of kitten healed flipflops that cost £455.

The sandals by posh brand Gianvito Rossi, which is loved by the royals, led to one unimpressed person on Twitter dubbing them 'disgraceful'.

The simple pair of leather shoes come in tan, white and black and are exclusively for sale on luxury site Net-a-Porter.

A tweet about the fancy footwear from a New York fashion writer was met with ridicule by fashion fans who seemed to fear that the noughties staple could be returning to their wardrobes this summer.

Celebrities including Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian have all been spotted wearing the distinctive style of shoes.
Fashion writer Emilia Petrarca shared a photo of the shoes, with the caption: 'Heeled flip-flops are coming.'

However Twitter responded, Charlotte Gibbons joked: 'Is that the price they pay people to wear them?'

Magi added: 'I couldn't imagine a type of footwear that is more uncomfortable than flip-flops but here we f****** go.'

Another person replied: 'Imagine spending anything more than 20 bucks on a dated product that required no skill to create and such little material to craft.'

Another fashion fan added: 'The whole concept of flip flops is comfort so why would someone ruin it by giving them heels.'

Rosie joked: 'lol I'll stick to 90p primark ones thanks.'

On Net-a-Porter, a description for the shoes states: 'Neutral shades and barely-there sandals are so big for Spring '19, and Gianvito Rossi combined both trends to create this exclusive pair.
'They've been made in Italy from supple tan leather and have slim thong straps. The 70mm kitten heel makes them a comfortable choice for day and evening.'

Gianvito Rossi shoes are a staple for both Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Other stars including Demi Lovato, Charlize Theron and Karlie Kloss have been spotted wearing the Italian designer's shoes.
