Police were called to a disturbance in Salisbury just before 3pm yesterday after local reported hearing terrifying screams.
Officers discovered the body of one woman, 18, and another was found seriously injured, but despite desperate efforts by paramedics, she died shortly afterwards.
Two distraught young girls were heard screaming in terror before they fled to safety and were consoled in the street by a concerned neighbour.
Neighbours say the man attacked his wife and 18-year-old daughter before fleeing the scene.
The wife is said to have screamed "where are my children?!" in her dying moments.
Both victims had their throats slit, according to The Sun, and the attack is thought to have been launched inside the house.
Wiltshire Police say a man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Hero neighbours Nick and Jan Maher rushed and took the little girls into their home to keep them safe, ordering Domino's pizza for them and watching cartoons on Nickelodeon.
Mr Maher, 59, who owns his own catering company, said: "There was some noise and I thought it was kids playing... but it got louder, dramatically louder.
"One of our neighbours was over the road with another guy and they pulled two kids out, which were the young daughters.
"I thought they were having a fight at first but someone shouted 'they've been stabbed, call the police' so I went out and my wife and I grabbed the two children to put them in our house and keep them safe.
"One of our neighbours came up the hill very out of breath and said 'we've caught him, just down the road'. He'd actually come out the front door while we were going in the back foot and went past us."
His wife, 62, said she was walked right past the suspect and saw him.
She said: "The kids were screaming so I said 'you come with me' and the man that brought them out the house said 'he's cut her throat'.
She added: "So as I walked back across the road... and as I walked across (he) came out the front door, walked fast, but didn't run."
She added: "I didn't see a knife or any blood on him."
One neighbour was so shocked he collapsed.
Mr Maher added: "The two builders caught up with him and flattened him, from what we're told.
"We had the children in here and kept them entertained. It's just bloody awful."
