In a seeming show of extreme crudity, some policemen in Igbogene, at the outskirts of Yenagoa, have brutalised a correspondent with the Guardian newspaper, Julius Osahon.

It was gathered that one of the Police sergeants attached to the state security outfit, ‘DOO AKPO’ , operating around the Bayelsa gateway, Idus Emmanuel, with police vehicle number 082, slapped the journalist several times before threatening to shoot and kill him.

In a petition copied the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Boma Spero-Jack and the Bayelsa Commissioner of Police, Osahon, who was treated and discharged by a private hospital urged the authorities to make sure the cops atone for their indiscretion. Narrating his ordeal in the letter, the journalist said he was molested and brutalised by the power-drunk police sergeant at about 1:30 pm.

“I was coming from Benin city where I had gone to see my family when the incident took place and it was in the full glare of passengers. He pointed the gun at me and ordered me to lie down. I tried to find out why he asked me to lie down and he angrily barked at me that I was refusing a lawful order. It was at that point that he started giving me some slaps.
