But the singer was rejected by him and she went on a drug binge for days.
Whitney’s former lover, Robyn Crawford, 55, claims that the star “had her eyes and heart set on Eddie” .
In a bid to entice the comedian, Whitney “decided to surprise him by showing up at his house with a cake, wearing nothing but lingerie and a fur coat,” Robyn claims.
But Eddie, 58, sent a pal to tell Whitney he was “busy” and “did a number on [the star’s] self-worth”, Robyn claims.
Robyn alleges that Whitney was dating singer Bobby Brown, 50 – who she was later married to, from 1992-2007 – and actor Eddie at the same time but she favoured Eddie. She makes the claims in her book A Song For You: My Life With Whitney Houston.
Robyn, who was Whitney’s assistant, also revealed that the I Will Always Love You singer had dabbled in drugs from a young age, first trying cocaine at 14.
The star drowned in the bath at age 48 in LA in 2012. Heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors in her death.
Robyn said Whitney, who sang in church choirs, “did not look like someone who got high”.
But the pair took cocaine together socially as youths and got addicted.
This involved “bowls filled with cocaine” appearing on tables at parties. Robyn quit working for Houston in 2000, after she failed to get the star into rehab.
By then, Whitney was cancelling shows and missing recording sessions. On the night she died, she had binged on cocaine and cannabis.
Whitney and Bobby’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, died in 2015 age 22 – six months after being found unconscious in the bath.
