Rapper 5th Ward Weebie, who was widely described as a driving force in New Orleans’ bounce music scene, died from heart surgery complications on Thursday.

The 42-year-old artist was born Jerome Cosey and his most popular songs included “Let Me find out" and “F--k Katrina." He also appeared in Drake’s 2018 hit “Nice for What."

“It broke my heart to learn that Jerome Cosey — our 5th Ward Weebie — has passed,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in an Instagram post Thursday.

“He was an iconic personality, a New Orleans legend, and a beloved friend,” she wrote. "He was the Bounce King, who showed us how to move, how to love, and how to bring passion and humanity to everything we do.”
